Clothing. Wide scooped neckline, edged with 1.5 cm deep cotton lace. The centre back opening is fastened with six tiny pearl shell buttons .8 cm in diameter- top button is fastened with a loop. 1.5 cm deep cotton lace trims the neckline and armholes. A .5 cm cotton braid trims the lower edge. Nine floral embroideries and pulled thread work 2.5 cm x 2.5 cm are spaced around the rounded front neckline. Below these embroideries on the left side breast, are embroidered the wearers initials-(M) MB. The owners initials are embroidered on the left front in a decorative manner, to compliment the floral embroidery. A lace ribbon, one cm wide at the waistline passes through 1.4 cm eyelets 2 cm apart. The Progressive Political League was formed in 1891 after the 1890 Maritime Workers Strike; it subsequently became the Australian Labor Party. The PPL is also contemporaneous with the defeat of the Shearer's Strike (1891). Its platform included "electoral reform, reform of the labour laws, social reform and supported Federation on a ‘democratic basis’." (Anarchist Age 2008). Yields information about the 1968 proposals to close both the Ballarat and Bendigo tramway systems by the state government.Series of newspaper clippings adhered to three quarto lined sheets about the 1968 attempt by the Victorian Government to close the Ballarat and Bendigo tramway systems. .1 - "Trams will go from two cities" - The Sun Friday 19/7/1968, about the Government's decision - gives reasons for the closure. .2 - "Protest over tram protest" - The Sun, 28/8/1968 - with a photo of No. 35 and that the Ballarat Save the Trams Committee not supporting a public protest meeting called by tramway employees. B&W print and scanned images of a coloured postcard lent to the BTM by Mr. Norm DePomeroy, Dec. 1997. Image is an ESCo tram just past the intersection of Doveton St. and Sturt St. travelling east along the north side of Sturt. Steet towing a heavily laden horse tram as a trailer. Photo appears to be taken soon after opening of the electric trams, as the tram does not have any destination box above the driver. Possibly summer 1905/1906. Numerous people in the street, some horse drawn vehicles in the photograph. Shows buildings along the south side of Sturt St. and part of the verandah of the building at the NE corner of Doveton St. 1 copy held at 8/98. Has a good association with the final days of the SEC Ballarat system with the operation of the trams for schools (Ballarat North Technical College) and the things that could happen while on tour - 40 derails again.Newspaper clipping from The Courier, Ballarat, dated Thursday 19/8/1971, titled "All aboard". Features two photos of No. 40 and one of another bogie tram during a farewell tour of the Ballarat system the previous day by Ballarat North Technical school students. The lower photo features the school students while the upper photo shows No. 40 derailed near the corner of Sturt and Lydiard Streets with the Town Hall in the background. Block of 50 2d Newspaper package Tickets. Two part printed ticket, using red ink on 60 gsm cream paper with the top half part having a part gummed back, stapled with a single staple at the top onto a cardboard sheet. The ticket butt has the form number "TYE 2-8". The top portion of the ticket was to be affixed to the newspaper package to be carried. It has the name of the organisation (SECV), "Newspaper Package Ticket 2d", conditions of carriage and ticket number. The lower portion was retained by the sender, was to be initialled by the conductor, "Newspaper Package Ticket 2d", conditions of use, ticket number and a space where to be initialled by the conductor. Each ticket has been stamped "CANCELLED" First two bottom half tickets missing. Heavy silverfish damage in places. First ticket (450) and lower portion of tickets 451 and 452 missing. Framed set of 17 No. 60mm x 38mm black and white photographs (see 588 - 604) showing arrival of new trams ex Melbourne in 1930, construction of Lydiard St North track relaying in Ballarat during 1937, opening of Lydiard St. extension in 1937 and two Geelong trams in 1937. Mounted on a white cardboard based with captions written under photos in brown ink, red ink underline contained within a brown stained wooden frame with glass front and cardboard backing sheet, held with small nails. For photo of opening of Lydiard St. Nth extension, has a piece of tape over date, corrected from 28-9-37 to 30-8-37. Also in pencil on rear of frame. Yields information about the griding of wheels at the tram depot following the installation of a grinder by the SEC during the mid 1930's. Shows the nature of the work and set up.Black and White photograph, of the SEC Ballarat depot wheel grinder being used to grind the wheels of a single truck tramcar. Shows a pit man/machinist using the equipment with the drive belts and wheels moving. The machinist is dressed in heavy clothing. Shows the detail of the operation. Date unknown - possibly late 1930's after installation. Set of three items concerning the restoration project for Horse Tram No. 1, by the Ballarat Vintage Tramway, 1986. 2804.1 - Letter on BTPS Letterhead, dated 8/4/1986, standard letter, seeking sponsorship or financial assistance for the project. Drafted for a Trust. Signed by the President, Frank Hanrahan. 2804.2 - 12 page report comb bound, with clear plastic cover, preprinted cover featuring horse tram No. 7 and light card rear back cover, dark blue in colour. Report gives an introduction, notes on the Ballarat Horse tram service, photos, notes on the BTPS, the project itself, costings, a elevation drawing of the horse tram, operation, sponsorship details, details of the Board, costs and times, and work program and expected cash flow. 2nd copy added 6/2/2005. 2804.2 - ditto, but stapled in top right hand corner. Photocopy of an article in the State Electricity Commission of Victoria Magazine, Contact, Vol 2, No. 3, Nov 1937 titled "Ballarat Tramway Extension". Single A3 sheet. The item details the opening event for the extension of the Lydiard St. tramway to Norman St or Ballarat North, or Lydiard St. North on 30/8/1937. Has a photo of the Mayor, Cr. J. Pryor cutting the ribbon. Gives names of officials who attended or spoke at the function at Electra Hall following the event. Notes the relationship between the SEC and the Council. Included in those who spoke at the event was Robert Haines, Motorman - Conductor "who has achieved fame by completing 50 years service". Record revised 3/4/2019 to add digital images with those from Andrew Cook CD.
