Accessory - Matches Holder, Early 20th century
This matches holder, a common item in the early 20th century, has been produced to commemorate the reign of King George 5th of England. It may have been produced for his coronation in 1911.This item is of no known provenance but it is of some interest since it is a souvenir of the reign of King George 5th.A rectangular shaped brown metal matches container. It is rounded on one side and has a striking mechanism on the other side and a lift up lid at the top. There is a circular inset with an image of King George 5th and Queen Alexandra in sepia tones with a clear perspex cover. The original owner of this pendant is unknown but its quality suggests that it belonged to a member of an affluent family .It was never inscribed. It was probably a gift to a lady on a special occasionThis is a vintage item kept for its attractive quality.This is a silver pendant with fret work and scroll work surrounding a small silver piece in the centre on which to etch an inscription. This coin purse has no known provenance but it was a common item owned particularly by men in the 19th and early 20th centuries. It would have been attached to the chain of a fob watch or a trouser belt. It may have been owned by a person of some substance and standing in the community.This item is retained as an interesting example of a coin holder used over a hundred years ago.This is a silver-coloured metal purse, oval in shape. It has a hinged lid and a round clip at the top to attach the purse to a chain or a belt.The item is slightly tarnished. Inside there are two round recessed sections that depress to hold coins. Functional object - perfume bottle, late 19th century
This perfume bottle has no known local provenance but ones like this would have been common in ladies' bedrooms in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The use of perfume was important in those days of limited access to bathing facilities. Today more modern versions of perfume bottles are still in use though now they are not such a necessary item.This perfume bottle is retained for display purposes only.This is a small glass bottle with a silver-coloured metal attachment at the top forming a lid and a spray mechanism that includes a metal tube that goes into the bottle. The story of this item is unknown. It may have been part of a man’s watch chain, with the watch missing. Its weight suggests it is an item of good quality, one owned by a person of substance and a common item for a wealthy man to have in the 19th and early 20th centuries.This item, in our collection for many years, has no known provenance and is kept for display purposes. This is a silver chain with silver links with a metal match holder at one end, a silver container in the shape of a ship’s wheel in the middle and a locket or coin holder at the other end.. The match holder is heavily patterned, the ship’s wheel container may have held coins in the past as it is recessed at the back and the locket or coin purse is ornamented and contains what looks like a coin, perhaps a threepenny bit from the time of George V or V1. Nothing is known about the ownership of this locket which has been in the collection for many years. In the 19th and early 20th centuries it was a common practice to own a locket as a piece of jewellery. It was also common to include in a locket either a photograph or an image of a loved one or a piece of hair, especially the hair of a child who had died.This locket has no known local significance but is retained as a fine example of a locket from many years ago.This is a round gold locket, heavily patterned on both sides. Inside is a piece of light brown hair covered with plain glass. There is some slight damage on the outside near the opening catch. The ring was the property of Valerie Dale who attended CPLC in the 1930's. It was donated to the school by her daughter in 2012. The ring is the first of its type to be returned to the school. The ring was accompanied with Valerie's school hatband and a blank school-produced Christmas card. Historical significance to the school because it is the only example of its type. ... accessories ...John Raymond Bruns (Jack) enlisted in the 38th Bn CMF date unknown or "V" number at this point. A family photo shows the marriage of Jack to Margaret Joyce (Peggy) Ball dated 10.3.1942. The 38th Bn were part of the 6th INF Brigade and they moved to WA in March 1942 for Garrison duties. By the DVA roll he enlists in Geraldton on 23.7 1942 with the number VX88627. The unit relocates to the NT in January 1943. He is discharged from the Army on 13.4.1944 with the rank of Cpl in 6th Inf Brigade Dep Platoon.
