The dual-naming of the Wimmera Library took place in November 2019, and includes a name in local Wergaia language. The Horsham Campus is now known as “Werrunangity larr Wimmerata” (pronounced: Wherroon narn kitch – larr – wimmerartar) meaning “a quiet place in the Wimmera.” The official naming took place in the presence of Professor Helen Bartlett (Vice Chancellor who was joined by Aunty Jennifer Beer, Uncle Rob Fry, Geoff Lord (Horsham Campus Director) , Sue Owen (Library Director), Jasmine Graham (Manager of the Aboriginal Education Centre), Keith Caldwell (Facilities), Katrina Beer and artist Tanisha Lovett. This naming was the result of extensive teamwork and community consultation between local Aboriginal Elders, land councils, our Aboriginal Education Centre, as well as library and campus leadership. It is just one of the ways in which we are progressing our University’s Reconciliation Action Plan. Established in 1740 by Jeremiah Carter in High Burton: the 1834 Piggots directory list three edge tool CARTER - makers at Kirk Burton: Henry Carter, John Carter and Robert Carter. By 1870 the company was known by its current name. The Stanley Rule and Level Company was founded in 1857 by Henry Stanley in New Britain, Connecticut. Photograph of the finale of the Legacy Demonstration in 1973, the Golden Jubilee year to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the founding of Legacy. It is at the Melbourne Town Hall and the stage is filled with children in costumes, some holding Australian flags. President Geoff Handbury is speaking at the microphone. Large Legacy Golden Jubilee sign and torch symbol above the performers. Legacy would stage annual demonstrations for many years to showcase the skills of the junior Legatees. Throughout the year Melbourne Legacy provided classes for Junior Legatees such as dancing, gymnastics and Eurythmics. The Demonstration was an annual event to showcase their skills. Melbourne Legacy conducted Annual Demonstrations / Parades from 1928 through to the 1980's, usually held at Melbourne Town Hall or Olympic Pool Stadium. The beautiful costumes were made by members of the Junior Legacy Mothers' Club and the Melbourne Legacy Wives' Association. In an e-mail from Mal Rowe dated 2/9/2019, he advises "If it is Essendon (and that looks right) especially noting that 454 (in the background) was allocated to Essendon at that time, so Essendon is pretty certain. The tram is most likely 927 - the only dash canopy SW6 with a number including 2 allocated to Essendon in the period. Geoff Warburton's tables say the three holes were cut in 927's dash in Nov 1951 and the it was converted to headlights in December 1951! As you say, looks like MMTB staff - in the pit in their suits! Report - original typed copy - six foolscap sheets bound within a brown card folder, stapled, with adhesive tape binding on the outside. Titled "Speed Tests - PCC Type Car No. 980 - June 1950", marked "Chairman's Copy", dated 17 July 1950, prepared by the MMTB Testing Department, Report No. S21/1/2. Gives details of testing done to determine the coasting characteristics of the tram, with crush, seated or no load. Tested in Miller St, Preston. Also reports on the maximum speed compared to car 888, and scheduled speed. Has appendices with the actual data. Conclusion on page 3 - that 980 would show an improvement of about 5% in schedule speed of SW6 cars.
