Completed in December 1910 as a steam passenger ship she was requisitioned as a troop transport for the Australian Expeditionary Force (AEF) in 1914. This book, a sequel to ‘The Swiss Family Robinson’ by Henry Frith, was a prize given to Frank Ward in 1901. His school, the Warrnambool Academy, was established in 1899 by Richard Lawson and William Oakley and was eventually situated at ‘Upton’ in Canterbury Road, Warrnambool. The Academy later incorporated the former Scott’s Warrnambool College and Stanley’s Warrnambool Grammar School. This private school closed in 1911. William Oakley later joined the Victorian Education Department and Richard Lawson had a distinguished academic career in teacher education in Melbourne and New Zealand. No details are available on Frank Ward. This is a hard cover book of 295 pages. The cover is dark blue with gold printing and ornamental gold borders on the front cover and spine. The book has an introductory chapter, 28 chapters of story and an Epilogue. In the back pages there are lists of other books published by Ward, Lock and Co. The book contains many black and white illustrations. There are two blue stamps of the Warrnambool & District Historical Society and on the first page a flyleaf from the Warrnambool Academy printed with gold print and borders and with handwriting in black ink. The dress was created by the Sydney company Simona Couture, founded 1963 by Inge Fonagy. Inge Fonagy trained in Switzerland and migrated to Australia in 1950. The chief designer of the company from the late 1960s was her son, John Recek. The fashion house won a number of awards including: David Jones' Supreme Award for Fashion Excellence (1972); David Jones Award for High Grade Fashion (1972); and David Jones Award for Pret-a-porter (1973),The McIntyre Collection of clothing and clothing accessories forms one of the largest single donations to our Fashion & Design collection. It is believed that the three stone cottages in the area were built c.1930 by Italian stonemasons. This cottage is a single room with open fireplace at one end. A hole was dug in the floor inside which a small drum was sunk and covered by a wooden lid. It served as a cool box for the storage of perishable food. It is not known when the cottage was last occupied but during the 1970s the drum was removed and the pit filled in for safety reasons. These original columns are marble, made in 113AD. They come from Rome, Italy and are held in the Cast Courts at the Victoria & Albert Museum, London. The collection of casts at the museum is one of the most important in the world. Their original purpose was educational when it was not easy to trail and see original works. they thus provided an opportunity for students to study. The Cast Courts opened in 1873 and allowed the display of large monuments. These galleries are currently divided by nationality. A record that the speakers at Legacy functions were from very different walks of life and the subjects spoken on varied. The image portrays the no longer used High Altar of the Ballarat Cathedral and one of Ballarat's major artworks installed in 1880. It was designed and executed by Leonardi of Carrara, Italy, recognised as one of the premier marble workers in the world at the time.
