Yields information about one of Ballarat's bogie trams prior to its conversion to a one-man-type car.Digital image from the Wal Jack Ballarat Album of Ballarat 38 prior to conversion to a one-man type tram in Sturt St climbing the hill to Lydiard St. No details as to photographer and date. The tram was converted to one man operation in 1953, but was banned as such by the union at the time. Photo taken between October 1951 when the tram arrived in Ballarat and late 1952 when work would have started to convert it. See Reg Item 5296 for a Feb. 1953 photo of it service post conversion. Financial record - BANK RECORDS, 1916-1979
The first Government controlled savings bank was established on 1 January 1842 under New South Wales legislation. Known as the Savings Bank of Port Phillip it was administered by a Board of Trustees and a Vice-President. Branches of this Bank were subsequently established in other parts of the colony. In 1853 a statutory body known as The Commissioners of Savings Banks in the Colony of Victoria was constituted under the Savings' Bank Act and each bank was thereafter to be a separate and independent institution with its own trustees and officers - however, between 1896 and 1912 the independent Savings Banks of Victoria merged to become a single institution and this development was formalised by the 1912 legislation. From 1980 the Bank was known as the State Bank of Victoria under the provisions of the State Bank Act 1980. The State Bank of Victoria established its own Archives before the Bank was sold in 1990 to the Commonwealth Bank of Australia. A vintage 1950's collection of adventure stories for boys with black lined illustrations.A vintage 1950's hardcover children's book with the title Our Boys' Best of All printed at the top of the coloured illustration of three boys in a rowboat fishing. It is bound on the left side with faded grey tape. The back cover is plain cream coloured.The frontispiece illustration depicts a highwayman brandishing a pistol holding up a stagecoach of passengers. Monsieur Noir ( one of the stories) is written below in blue letters. The title page has the title, publisher details and a black lined illustration of a boy riding a horse with his whip in the air. In the middle of the collection of stories is a coloured plate with the name of one of the stories included: The Secret of Cormorant Point underneath the illustration of three boys being captured by a gang of men with a policeman coming to rescue them.
