This set of 20 black & white photographs of the refurbishment of Air Survey Squadron’s production areas, was taken in circa 1982. These refurbishments were most likely in preparation of the AUTOMAP 2 production system and to accommodate the expansion of the Army Survey Regiment’s work force. This photo set also includes the exterior and interior of a new building - 16A, a modular building of several sections transported in and joined together as part of the expansion. Another modular building - 16B was added later in the 1980s to accommodate Technical Services. Lismore Post Office was opened in the year 1864. In the year 1883 a telegraph system was introduced to Lismore, this service carried on until 1888. In 1914 the Lismore Post Office was opened as an Official Post Office and the Morse system was reintroduced. This service functioned until the closure of the system in Victoria on Saturday June 30 1962. The liner contains a webbing suspension system that can be adjusted to fit the wearer's head. The suspension webbing has a three-strap olive green nylon webbing in an asterisk pattern stretching across the inside of the liner. A brown leather and nylon webbing sweatband is mounted around the inside of the liner with metal clips. The suspension system is mounted at six points with metal rivets and clips. Bob Hymans Collection Bob (Herman) Hymans (a former member of the Royal Netherlands Navy) was born in Bloemendaal, Holland on 30th September 1922. During World War II he fought against the Japanese in the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia) and was imprisoned in Changi and on the Burma Railway. After gaining qualifications as a Ski Instructor, Bob arrived in Falls Creek in July 1950. Working as an Instructor and Supervisor at Bogong Lodge, Bob decided his future was in accommodation. He was successful in negotiating an indenture for land from the State Electricity Commission (SEC). It took Bob two years to build his Grand Coeur Chalet but, tragically, it was burned down in August 1961. Bob also built the first Chairlift in Australia. This was a single chairlift and the structure was built from wooden electricity poles. He was constantly full of new ideas and proposals for the village. Bob Hymans died on 7th July 2007. This Collection of documents and letters tells the story of Bob's endeavours to develop Falls Creek into the ski village it is today.This letter is significant because it reflects the relationship between Bob Hymans and the Management Committee.A hand written letter from Bob Hymans related to application to install one electric high capacity steel cable lift and also to meeting to discuss the rearrangement of existing lifts.
