Piece of worn trolley wire (copper, probably cadmium copper) taken from north bound trolley wire between poles 9 and 17 (Loop and St. Aidans Drive) on 4/3/1997 during replacement operations. Is badly worn on one side. OK on the other side - slightly curve with worn side on the outside of the curve. Green (Oxidized) and sides, dark brown on top. Has been cut at either end. Provides for 214 General Rules - in four sections - General, Accident Prevention, Procedure in Case of Accidents, Tickets, Fares Cash etc and By-Law No. 5 - General dated 4/5/1922. By 1904 Mr E R McMartin was the manager and licensee of the Shamrock Hotel including the Shamrock Tobacconist that had previously been owned and run by Mr Karl Van Damme.Dark brown pipe cover in shape of pipe, leather exterior and textured cream fabric interior, with hinge at smoke exit end of pipe and small metal latch at bottom of pipe tube. Electro hydraulic dredge Snake Valley 1909. J Mc Bennett, was an engineer back at the main base, at Dawson's dam on the Carngham Road, Between Linton and Snake Valley. These dredges were used for getting gold. The streams of water under high pressure just washed the hills and ground away. This dredge closed down early 1910. 200 H.P. motors were used and 10 in. pumps.Black and white image of three workmen, one beside mining building the other two at dredge pump outlet. Image mounted on dark brown card. Between 1904 and 1911 the Electro Hydraulic Company sought to extract gold in an area north of Linton known as the Hard Hills. By blasting water from high-pressure hoses into the hillsides, soil containing gold was washed out for sluicing. Two gravel pumps in Dawson's Dam pumped the wash through the sluices. Frederick Steele Ferguson (1861-1938) married Beatrice O'Brien in 1898. Originally they lived at 19 Brodie Street, Quarry Hill, but by 1925 they were registered as living on the corner of Rodney and Reginald Street with their son Frederick Steele McNair Ferguson and his wife Amelia, and later with their daughter Maude. It appears the family continued to live at this address following Frederick snrs death. A surveyor was employed to measure the land designated as Yangery, County of Villiers, in the Borough of Warrnambool. The area on the map is similar to the earlier Farnham Survey undertaken by William Rutledge in the 1850's. Warrnambool was a Borough between 1863-1883. Coutours, waterways, sea and other significant points are shown. The distances are accurately measured. This survey map was used for planning future land sales, recreation areas and roads. WILLIAM RUTLEDGE (1806-1876) William Rutledge surveyed the land known as Farnham in southwest Victoria in 1843. His tenants made him a profitable business from working the land there. In 1863 Rutledge moved from nearby Port Fairy to Farnham and became very successful in breeding sheep, which he imported from J.R. Kirkham of Lincolnshire, England. He also bred horses on his land. The survey map of Yangery is important for its connection with renowned surveyor William Rutledge.
