The 67th (Bendigo) Infantry was the local Militia Infantry Unit from 1912-1918. It's members came from Bendigo up to Deniliquin and Bendigo up to Kerang - Swan Hill areas.This is a leather bound book (Manuscript). The type of leather is called "old goat leather". The title and words are gold embossed. It is fastened with 4 brass Chicago screw binders. Inside are pages of A4. size. The history section is of 165 pages - text, images, black and white and colour. Nazi Germany silver 2 Reichsmark Hindenburg/Swastika. This historic silver 2 Reichsmark was struck by Nazi Germany from 1936 until production was halted by the start of World War II in 1939. It is an historic coin of the failed Third Reich.German 2 Reichsmark Coin. A silver circular coin dated 1939. The coin is approximately the size of a quarter and has an unusual lettered edge which reads, "Gemeinnutz geht vor Eigennutz" and translates roughly to "Common good comes before self".One side depicts a Nazi Eagle holding a swastika with the legend "Deutsches Reich", along with the date of 1939 and denomination of 2 dm. These nine photographs were most likely taken in c1988 in Lithographic Squadron at the Army Survey Regiment, Fortuna, Bendigo. The equipment operated by the technicians is the KLIMCH camera. The main tasks undertaken by the technicians were most likely enlargements and reductions of map reproduction material. The KLIMSCH Commodore camera was introduced in 1953 and was the largest in the Southern Hemisphere. It was replaced with a new model of the same size in 1979. The new model with its computer-based interface provided productivity gains with improved speed and its consistent results led to less wastage in time and materials. Its variomat lens system provided improved retention of map feature linear weights during the camera reduction process. The camera which was specially made for the Army in Germany was fully automatic and power operated. It was claimed to be one of the biggest automatic cameras of its type in the world. It was made to the specifications of the Royal Australian Army Survey Corps to assist in the production of the very high standard maps for the Army. This is a set of three photographs of an Open Day held at the AHQ Survey Regiment, Bendigo c1958. It’s evident in the background of these group photos there were displays of field surveying equipment. It is known an Open Day was held on the 2nd of November 1958. As the CO LTCOL Lindsay Lockwood MID is positively identified, it’s highly probable these photos were taken at that time. LTCOL Lindsay Lockwood was the CO of the AHQ Survey Regiment from 1951 to 1962. As the longest serving commanding officer of the unit, there was many changes implemented under his command. He decided an Open Day was the best way for the local community in Bendigo to gain an insight into the unit’s important role as Defence’s map production agency, its technical equipment, and its economic importance to Bendigo. It also gave them an opportunity to tour through historic Fortuna Villa. In the background of photo .1P above the man on the right is a sign with the following text: ‘STAR OBSERVING EQUIPMENT.’ LTCOL Lindsay Lockwood’s period as CO is covered in more detail in pages 48-49 of Valerie Lovejoy’s book 'Mapmakers of Fortuna – A history of the Army Survey Regiment’ ISBN: 0-646-42120-4. HMAS Una was a Royal Australian Navy sloop that began its life as the German motor launch Komet. The ship and her 57 crew was captured by an infantry detachment of the Australian Naval and Military Expeditionary Force led by John Paton on 9 October 1914, with no loss of life. Komet was then sailed to Sydney as a prize. During the time in which the Una was in service under Australia, the sloop was used as a Patrol and General Purpose Vessel. The sloop was used to patrol the areas of New Guinea, New Britain, New Hebrides and Malayan waters. In December 1918, Una was sent to Darwin to protect Administrator John Gilruth, following the Darwin Rebellion. She arrived on Christmas Eve anchoring beneath the Government House cliffs until HMAS Encounter arrived in early 1919. After World War I, Una was decommissioned and taken to Port Phillip Bay, renamed Akuna and used as a pilot vessel. This is a set of ten photographs of Lithographic Squadron’s Printing Building at the Army Survey Regiment, Fortuna, Bendigo, c1986. The building was originally George Lansell’s gold crushing battery. When the Army took possession of Fortuna in 1942, it was modified with reinforced concrete floors to house the heavy-duty printing equipment. An additional building was purpose built on the eastern side of the printing building in 1987 to house a new computer-controlled Heidelberg Speedmaster five colour lithographic offset Printing Press. This is a photograph of CAPT Jack Cullen (Ret) and an unidentified person besides the front steps of Fortuna Villa, Bendigo, c1978. Jack Cullen served for many years in the Royal Australian Survey Corps from 1920 to 1952, after active service with the AIF in WW1. His service at Fortuna began in 1944 when he was a Lieutenant in charge of a map compilation section. This photograph of Prime Minister Hon RJ Hawke’s visit to the Army Survey Regiment was taken at Fortuna, Bendigo in March 1990. This occasion was one of several events held to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the formation of the Royal Australian Survey Corps. The one-hour visit was a rare opportunity for RA Svy to demonstrate to its Prime Minister the unit’s important role as Defence’s map production agency, its technical equipment, and its economic importance to Bendigo. It was also an opportunity to take him through historic Fortuna Villa.
