The Ballarat Teachers' College opened at Dana Street Primary School in 1926. From 1927-1931 it was conducted at the Ballarat East Town Hall. Returning to Dana Street Primary School in 1946 to 1955, and eventually was held in a costume built facility in Gillies street from 1955 to 1976. In 1976 pre-service teacher training was moved to the Ballarat College of Advanced Education at Mt Helen Campus. This image was hung in the corridor of the School of Education (Mount Helen). It most probably dates from around the time of the transfer of Ballarat Teachers' College to the Mount Helen Campus of the Ballarat College of Advanced Education. Early photograph of the Ballarat Post Office taken from the intersection of Sturt and Lydiard Streets. A gas lamp stands in the middle of the intersection. People standing and talking on the roads. The Post Office was built in two sections. Section one built in 1864. Section two and the tower were built in 1885. It was built in the Victorian Italianate design. Arched headed windows on the ground floor originally formed a colonnade. These were filled in to provide more internal space. The Ballarat Observatory was established by James Oddie. It was later given to the Ballarat School of Mines, then the City of Ballarat.A number of Miners' Rights made out to James Oddie of Ballarat, for a block of land in Magpie Street, Mount Pleasant, used as the Ballarat Observatory. The red 1995 Miners' Right includes land at Dana Street with red writing over it regarding its transferal. Ballarat Teachers College commenced in 1926 with 61 students with the aim of providing trained teachers for rural schools. It initially operated from the Dana Street Primary School while the Ballarat East Town Hall was renovated for the colleges use. The item with six photographs details the history of the development of Ballarat's Power Supply. The collection of artefacts formely belonged to the writers father, J.M. Marshall of Sturt Street. He was born and lived in Ballarat most of his life, and was interested in the Ballarat School of Mines Museum during the era of Professor Alfred Mica Smith. The response to this letter foreshadows the closure of the Ballarat School of Mines Museum. Alan Sonsee of the Ballarat Teachers' College was a Field Naturalist and collector of Aboriginal artefacts, and may have been associated with the decision. Handwritten letter from Jessie Marshall of Adelaide offering a collection of Australian "Native Weapons and Curios" to the Ballarat School of Mines Museum. The writer describes the collection as "not a large collection but a very good one - there are also some lovely shells." Ballarat School of Mines Registrar, F.E. This book was awarded to David McMurtrie Paterson for English as first prize in the fourth form in 1886. David enrolled in Ballarat College in 1886 at the age of 14. In the original register it lists parent/guardian as John Paterson, contractor, residing at 12 Errard Street South. It also states that previous school was SS.33, upper VI th form [subsequently known as Dana Street P.S].Presbyterian educators placed great value on a classical education matched with diligence in study. Book prizes were highly regarded and academic success admired. In the school’s early years prizes were ordered direct from London and had the school crest embossed in gold on the front or back cover. Many of the prizes given in early years were returned to the school to equip the Weatherly Library when it opened in 1936.Bound in brown cloth with black and gilt illustrated front cover and spine. The Battery Paddock ran along Albert Street near the intersection of Grant Street, and was alongside the Ballarat School of Mines battery, or model mine. The Ballarat Junior Technical School was a division of the Ballarat School of Mines. It was established in 1913 at Dana Street Primary School with Albert Steane as Principal. In 1926 a custom built school in the grounds of the Ballarat School of Mines was opened. Today that building houses Prospects Training Restaurant. A number of students of the Ballarat Junior Technical School play cricket on the Battery Paddock of the Ballarat School of Mines.
