Uniform - Olympic Games Ski Suit 1976
Winter Olympics, Innsbruck, Austria. This uniform was donated to the Falls Creek Historical Society by Dr. Howard W. Farrow who was appointed as a Medical Officer for the Australian Olympic Games Team of 1976. Dr. Farrow's father, Dr. Claude Farrow was a founding member of the Edelweiss Ski Club of Australia which was formed in 1947. He was also the Founding President of the Federation of Victorian Ski Clubs (F.O.V.S.C) which produced the Ski-Horizon journal. Dr. Howard Farrow reported that "the Europeans laughed at us and called us the prisoners". Australia sent a team of eight athletes to Innsbruck, five men and three women. The team consisted of alpine skiers Kim Clifford, David Griff, Robert McIntyre, Joanne Henke and Sally Rodd; figure skaters Billy Schober and Sharon Burley and speed skater Colin Coates, who was competing in his third Winter Olympics. This uniform was designed by famous fashion designer Pru Acton OAM, in response to a request by athletes for a more colourful uniform than the standard green blazer previously worn by the Australian team at the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Games. This uniform is significant because it was a modern development of Australian Winter Olympic team uniforms created by a famous Australian fashion designer. The Australian Ski Suit for the 1976 Winter Olympic Games. It has patches of big bold black and white stripes, set horizontally and vertically, with panels of yellow. The Australian emblem of Olympic circles and a kangaroo are placed on the back and front of the jacket and on the arm and leg. A bib-and-brace overall in matching stripes was worn under the jacket.1976 winter olympics, australian winter olympics uniforms, pru acton, dr. howard farrow -

Book, Val Noone et al, Gaelige Ghrianduite A go Z ahOn (Sunburnt Irish), 2021
... Byrnes Robert Lindsey Colin Ryan Mary Doyle ...Gaeilge Ghriandóite: A go Z a hAon/ Sunburnt Gaelic from A to Z, Edition One, records selected findings of four Australians about the neglected history of the Irish language and Gaelic culture in this country. Gaeilge Ghriandóite/ Sunburnt Gaelic means the Irish language as it is spoken and written in Australia, as it comes to grips with a new environment. It is written throughout in Irish and is the first, and only, such book about the topic. Readers will find that over the past two centuries there have been dramatic breaks in continuity but also common threads. Triggered by positive responses from both experts and general readers alike to talks and papers all four had given on the topic, at a meeting in August 2019 the authors decided that the time was ripe to present to the public some fruits of their collaboration. The book's 108 pages present historical and contemporary facts about Irish-language culture in Australia in short entries, arranged in alphabetical order, with over 60 illustrations. This format makes it easy to find information and suits the present stage of research and publication on the topic. Also the alphabetical listing provides a flexible format for future editions. The book includes two short overview pieces and the first detailed bibliography on the topic.Ill, bib, ports, p.107.non-fictionGaeilge Ghriandóite: A go Z a hAon/ Sunburnt Gaelic from A to Z, Edition One, records selected findings of four Australians about the neglected history of the Irish language and Gaelic culture in this country. The book includes two short overview pieces and the first detailed bibliography on the topic.australia - irish language, australia - irish culture -

Photograph - Fred Rochow Railways Collection - Driver Robert (Bobby) Thompson's Retirement, 1955
The Fred Rochow Railways Collection incorporates photos related to the operation of the Wodonga Railway Station including different types of trains and railways staff C. 1930 – 1990. It was donated to the Wodonga Historical Society by Fred Rochow, a railwayman who spent many years based in Wodonga. He joined the Victorian Railways on 17th June l947 and retired in 1988. For some time, he was a member of the Australian Federated Union of Locomotive Enginemen and served a term as a member of the Trades Hall Council. He had an extensive knowledge of the struggles that took place to achieve better conditions for railway workers. Fred worked for many years as a fireman and then worked his way up the ranks to driver, experiencing many changes from the days of steam locomotives through to diesel trains, locomotives and even the modern XPT train. He worked throughout Victoria at different stages of his career, with his final working years focused on the northeast of Victoria and the Albury to Melbourne line. After his retirement, Fred continued to share his love of steam miniature trains with the community. This collection has local and statewide significance as it captures images of trains, locomotives and personnel who operated the railway services in Wodonga and throughout Northeast Victoria. The railways played a critical role in opening up Victoria and connecting Australia for trade, business, social communication and transport.Gathering of Railway men at a retirement function for Driver Robert Thompson in 1955.
