A black and white photograph of the Taggerty Butter Factory in Victoria.A black and white photograph of the Taggerty Butter Factory in Victoria taken around 1904. The Taggerty Butter factory opened in 1892 in the township on the Little River. It was run by the Kennedy family and built by J.B. Coombs of Acheron Station. Coombs was later Shire President. Milk had been previously taken daily to the steam-driven separators at Thornton. Upper Thornton. The cream was separated and the remains were taken back to the farms for the pigs and calves. Before these town separators existed butter had been made at home in a barrel, salted, and stored. The operation at Taggerty ceased in 1908 and the Alexandra Dairy Company took over production. The building no longer exists but materials from the original Taggerty Butter factory building now form part of the Williamson house off Swamp Creek Road.taggerty, victoria, taggerty butter factory, little river, kennedy family, j b coombs, acheron station, thornton, upper thornton, alexandra dairy company, williamson, swamp creek road -

The collection of over 500 images is held in partnership between Eltham District Historical Society and Yarra Plenty Regional Library (Eltham Library) and is now formally known as the 'The Shire of Eltham Pioneers Photograph Collection.' It is significant in being the first community sourced collection representing the places and people of the Shire's first one hundred years. The Reynolds family were early settlers in Research. The Reynolds/ Prior collection of photographs were taken by Tom Prior, the maternal uncle of Ivy Reynolds, around 1900 and the 60 photos in the album give a fine overview of many of the landmarks of Research and Eltham over 100 years ago. lvy lived in the family home for many years at 106 Thompson Cres Research. Ivy's father, Ernst Richard Reynolds and grandfather, Richard Reynolds, lived at the same address. Ivy's father Richard worked for Mr. Trail on his property in Research. Reynolds Road is named after the family. Mr Tom Prior (wife Eva) worked at the Melbourne zoo. He was very innovative and made his own camera, using the black cloth hood to exclude the light. The photographs are a reminder of the rural nature of Research and Eltham and its rich heritage.Digital image (Neg missing)shire of eltham pioneers photograph collection, eltham, main road, research (vic.), reynolds prior collection -

Book, Murrindindi Shire Council, Beyond Age-From the ashes: portraits of resilience, love and loss, 2011
The devastating Victorian bushfires of February 2009 claimed the lives of 173 people. Since then, residents and property-owners throughout the Shire of Murrindindi have rallied together to reclaim their homes, their communities, their relationships and the landscapes they love. Many of them are senior citizens, who have demonstrated through their resilience, wisdom and sense of humour that age often means nothing more than numbers. From CFA volunteers to church-wardens, shearers to scone-makers, older members of the Shire of Murrindindi continue to play their parts in helping communities rise from the ashes. These are their portraits-and some of their stories.Front cover has a black and white photograph of a bearded man whose story is in the book. A chance discovery made on a tour of Anzac Cove provided an immediate link between Gallipoli and Melbourne’s Eastern Suburbs. In the lead up to the Centenary of Anzac, ‘The Sweetland Project’ (named after a Box Hill man, Stephen Sweetland) became a broader search for the connections between Gallipoli and the former Shire of Nunawading, revealing 27 men from the former shire who died during the Gallipoli campaign. It was burnt during the February 2009 bushfires. Two specimens were found immediately after the bushfires however only one was locatable when donated. This specimen has historic significance for its association with the February 2009 bushfires. It is a rare, complete example of the impact of the bushfires on a diverse range of fauna in and around Yarra Ranges. Although many animals were affected by the bushfires, very few specimens were collected and preserved. This specimen is reliably provenanced to a property in Glendale (just outside the boundaries of the Shire of Yarra Ranges) which was affected by the 2009 bushfires.Fully grown, complete skink burnt during the Black Saturday bushfires in February 2009 in Glenburn, Victoria.fire, yarra ranges, skink, bushfire, bushfires, 2009, animal, glenburn -
