One of these has gone so far as to seek opinion of an independent engineer regarding the possibility of township water supply. May 1 1937 A move to combine in Melton Shire Council to convene a public meeting to agitiate for extension of the Electric Supply to Melton is being undertaken by the Progress Association and the Hall Committee. The cast iron gates (manufactured in Glasgow) introduced at the North West entrance in 1907. The gates were purchased from ‘Fairlie” corner of Acland and Anderson Streets, South Yarra at the cost of 72 pounds and cost 60 pounds to install. They had originally cost the owners of ‘Fairlie’ 1200 pounds. Lee Heap Furniture Warehouse of Williamstown used the postcards to advertise. The postcards are evidence of the interest the gardens held as a subject for postcard publishers. The text and images provide a snapshot into fashions, social interests and concerns of the time. The professionally produced images provide a pictorial history of Gardens including changing planting styles, various structures and features of the Gardens eg the aviary, cannons, the fountain, the second Curator’s Lodge and gates. The images offer an opportunity to compare garden vistas with the present day. The image in this postcard shows the gates intact and as installed in 1907. The current layout of this area still reflects the change of design, which followed the 1907 removal of the first gardener's residence and the subsequent re-organisation of this quarter of the gardens. This postcard is evidence of the placement of one of the cannons relocated from Fort Gellibrand in 1906. They were removed from the Gardens in the 1960s. These same cannons remain a feature on the Williamstown waterfront in 2013. Black and white image of main entrance gates which are open. Botanical Reserve Stawell West with a gentleman and boat. The first committee of management was gazette in 1863. In April 1870 the reserve was placed under the control of the Borough Council. Entrance gates to “The Sycamores” Driveway. A show place on Concongella from mid 1860's. "The Sychmores" where William Osmand lived. Osmand's "Sycamores" was in a secluded block of the eastern side of the creek along which was planted pine and cypress trees. He built a comfortable house and line the carriage way with Sycamores. Osmand was on the of the men who made money in the Stawell reefs mines. "The Sycamores" has been owned by the West family since c 1920. Built for William and Anna-Maria Greenlaw in the early 1880s, and with interiors decorated by the Paterson Bros, Villa Alba remained in private ownership until 1949. From 1950, the house was owned by a number of institutions. By 1984, the Villa Alba Preservation Society had been formed, and three years later, the Mount Royal Hospital granted a 25-year lease to Kew Council. In 2004, the title to Villa Alba was passed by the Victorian Government to The Villa Alba Museum Incorporated. Opening Heathmont Railway Station in May 1926. The photo shows Herman Pump (centre) and Bill Everard MLA (left), at the gate at the entrance to the railway platform. The Station building was located on the west side of the tracks, near the corner of Heathmont and Canterbury Roads. At the officially opening, the ribbon was cut by Louise Pump, wife of Herman.
