The Northern District School of Nursing opened in 1950 in to address the issues around nurse recruitment, training and education that had previously been hospital based. The residential school was to provide theoretical and in-house education and practical training over three years. The students would also receive practical hands-on training in the wards of associated hospitals. The Northern District School of Nursing operated from Lister House, Rowan Street, Bendigo. Introduced in 1974, the Braille Book of the Year was created to both acknowledge excellence in writing as well as raise the profile of Braille books. In 1991, the award was won by Trevor Hay for his book 'Tartar City Woman: scenes from the life of Wang Hsin-ping, former citizen of China'. The Narrator of the Year award went to Paul Karo for 'The Rise and Fall of Alan Bond'. Photograph, St Pauls' Service and Pilgrimage to the Shrine 1985, 1985
Photos of a procession of widows and legatees to the Shrine in 1985 also of the church service in St Paul's before hand. The Legacy President Bannister is behind Legatee Geoff Swan holding the Legacy flag. The University of Melbourne choir is shown behind the Dean of St Paul's. The Melbourne Legacy Widow's Club president, Mrs Alma Sumner, spoke and also laid a wreath at the Shrine. One photo is of Pilgrimage Marshall Legatee Frank Burton. The pilgrimage was lead by a bag piper, Ian McKenzie and Standard bearer from Legacy Leadership Group (an older junior Legatee). Inside the Shrine the Shrine Trustee, Sir Alfred Kemsley stands with President Bannister and Widow President Mrs Alma Sumner and Legatees Conor MacGillycuddy and Alf Argent. Sometimes referred to as Widows' Sunday it is an annual event for Legacy widows, usually at the start of Legacy Week, which is the first week in September. The church used for the service varies. These photos were in an album of photos from 1993. Post card of the Stawell Shire Hall built 1866. The Shire Hall in Longfield Street Stawell has seen many changes over time. The building originally had a brick facade as seen in this photo. The post card also shows the changes in vegetation around the building. In front of the two arched front windows of the building are two tall Dracaena's possible planted in c 1890's. The decorative fence was not in very early photographs of the building but appears in photographs around c 1890. House and land packages were available in the areas of Bundoora surrounding the Loyola and Parade College sites, which were monasteries in the 1960s. As an Old Collegian Ken also served on the Ballarat College Council 1950-73 and the Ballarat Clarendon College Council 1974-84 (Chairman 1976-84).
