In the foreground is a large area of long grass which leads into the shorter maintained grass that surrounds the building. Behind the building are numerous tall dark green trees. Artist comment: These three prints (The Groom, The Undertaker's Assistant, The Organist) are part of a series on forebears of Portland. The drawings are taken from people in a collection of photographs belonging to the Johnson Family of Portland. The "Old Lady" and "The Wedding" are part of the same series. The Heidelberg School of Painting worked in the Yarra Valley area between Box Hill and Heidelberg in the late 19th Century and produced a number of famous artists.
