The first Kew Congregational Church in Walpole Street, was designed by Charles Vickers, and opened in 1860. The second church on the site, designed by the architect Charles Wharton was demolished in 1970s. The initial Methodist Church at Long Gully was a slab hut and in 1855 the first brick building was erected. This was replaced in 1865 by a brick church designed by architects Vahland and Getzschmann. In 1877 the present church, designed by the same architects was built, with the 1865 building becoming the Sunday school. Written on backing sheet, "Methodist Church on site at Cnr. Melbourne St. and Whitehorse Rd. On its removal to Greenwood Ave. Mr. J.B. McAlpin built shops on this site - land (Dimmey's) including his own estate agency." One photograph claimed church was moved to Greenwood Ave in 1916. Photograph taken in 1904. Another photograph states that the photograph is of the Methodist Church and Sunday School. Inserted in the sleeve of one of the photographs are two small postcard photographs that state they are, "Methodist Church in Main Street, Ringwood opposite railway station. The former "Zion" Congregational Church was on the corner of Walker Street and Beverin Street in Sebastopol. Its origins began as 'Zion" Welsh Independent Church in Albert Street, Sebastopol. The Uniting Church in Australia was inaugurated in June 1977, at which time the Sebastopol Methodist Church joined with the Zion Congregational Church on Walker Street, Sebastopol and became Sebastopol Uniting Church. The block to the south of the church was purchased in 1982, the occupying house demolished and the area cleared and later sealed for parking. In 1984 the interior of the church was renovated and plans were drawn up for further additions and alterations to the Sunday school, which were carried out in 1989, adding a kitchen and toilet built by Jeff Menhennett & SonsWhite soft covered booklet of 20 pages with blue printing.
