Functional Object - Square Key
Has a strong association with tram crews, possibly inspector (Dave Kellett?) in Ballarat, would have been issued to crews in order operate the tram car doors. Normally a L shaped key.T shaped steel piece, with a round top piece or handle with a rod that has been forged at the lower end to give a tapered square shape for use possibly in external doors on SECV Ballarat Trams - known as a square key. Was used to secure doors in both open and closed positions. Ephemera, Dave Kellett, questions for tram drivers, 1967
Has a strong association with tram crews, possibly inspector (Dave Kellett?) in Ballarat. Prepared by Dave Kallett to undertake follow ups and to assist in the training of crews by checking their knowledge.Black gloss paper covered notebook or address book, titled "Where is it?, use by Dave Kellett? as a note book to record questions for tram drivers, when acting as an inspector. Note book has tabs marked for "A to W". Notebook consists of four sections, sewn into the spine, with glued full page covers. Gold block on top and bottom edges. Last few pages torn out. Each page ruled with blue and red lines at the top. Has a decimal currency conversion table in the front inside cover and a 1967 calendar on the rear inside cover. On bottom of rear cover, stamped, "Made in Japan". Handwritten questions cover various driving and electrical aspects of the trams, both 4 wheelers and bogie trams. Yields information about a collision between a tram and motor vehicle at the Victoria St terminus and issues with the driver of the motor vehicle being fatigued and the effects of alcohol - see article written on Coroners inquests by Alan Bradley.Ten page copy, from scanned original of a Coroner's Inquest and proceedings into the death of Bernard John Bourke in Ballarat following a collision between a motor car driven by the deceased and SEC tram No. 12 at the Victoria St terminus on, 5/7/1963. The Coroners Inquest was held on 28/8//1963. The copy of the inquest from the Public Records Office Victoria - VPRS 24/P2, unit 62, file 1963/1399. For detail scans of photographs by the Police see Reg. Item 3710. Contains witness statements by: Desmond Ian Domaschenze - Motorman SEC, William Alexander Maes, Motorman SEC and Constable Neil Thomas Patterson. Not copied was the post mortem report: The deceased, Bernard John Bourke, was dead on arrival at Ballarat Base Hospital. A post mortem on 7 July found fractures of ribs and associated lung damage, and concluded that “death was caused by stove in chest”. On 8 July Bourke’s blood was analysed. The conclusion: “I analysed this blood and found it to have an alcohol content of 0.120%. This blood alcohol level in an eleven stone man would be equivalent to the minimum consumption of eight, seven ounce glasses of beer”. Features a photo of No. 18 being towed along the Albert St. track by a tractor and the hand over from the SEC to the Borough at the resting place of the tram. Features Cr. N. F. Donald and Mr. I. F.
