The American -made Combat Vehicle Crewman's helmet was worn by crewmembers requiring access to a vehicle's communication system. The helmet was intended to offer head protection inside the vehicle but it did provide some protection against shrapnel.Khaki coloured helmet with chinstrap. These items are probably American ). A lot of carved bakelite jewellery/buttons/buckles were manufactured in the U.S.A. The orange (red?) one is especially reminiscent of American bakelite, due to its polished look. The other one is probably butterscotch bakelite. Originally it would have been white or cream, but the plastic oxidises over time and changes colour to a butterscotch colour. The rectangular one is probably a belt slide. Some types of belts don't have any holes in them. The belt is just slid through the clasp. There is no notch in the centre bar indicating that there was never a hasp. Denis Gibbons (1937 – 2011) Trained with the Australian Army, before travelling to Vietnam in January 1966, Denis stayed with the 1st Australian Task Force in Nui Dat working as a photographer. His overseas service is listed as from 16.6.1943 to 1.10.1944 on Goodenough, Kiriwina and Los Negros Islands. Then Madang from 5.6.1945 to 22.10.1945. Other service was Townsville QLD. Discharged from the RAAF on 18.12.1945 with the rank of LAC in No 2 Medical Recieving Station.
