This is number 20 of 27 items in the Daisy Vickers collection of World War One memorabilia. These items were sent or given to Daisy Ogier (nee Vickers) during World War One by Corporal Arthur Anderson who enlisted from Warrnambool in 1915 at the age of 21. He served in Egypt and France and returned to Australia in 1919. Daisy Ogier (1907-1987) was a student and then a teacher at Warrnambool Technical School with her early teaching years there from 1925 to 1936 and in 1949. She became the head mistress from 1950 to 1963 and in 1968. She officially retired in 1976. Daisy Vickers was one of the best loved and dedicated teachers that the school ever had. She married the Reverend Fred Ogier and continued her association with the school after her husband's death.This card is interesting because of its association with World War One and two local people Daisy Vickers and Arthur Anderson This is a piece of paper folded in two to make four pages. Two pages have printed lettering and handwriting . These eight photos of the Army Survey Regiment’s Tug-of-War Team were most likely taken at Simpson Barracks, Watsonia in circa 1989. There is no information available on why the unit sent the team to Melbourne, the occasion, and the winner of this contest. It may have been a military athletics carnival held to commemorate Australia’s First Fleet bi- centenary, noting there was other members of Army Svy Regt on the bus who were not part of this team. The team’s coach was WO1 Ken Slater. Tug-of-War contests were very popular for the competitors and spectators, as they were often held at the Regiment as a component of inter-squadron athletics competitions, Flag Day verses the School of Military Survey, Bones Day verses the RAAF’s the School of Radio and a component of regimental training.These eight photos of the Army Survey Regiment’s Tug-of-War Team were most likely taken at a competition held at Simpson Barracks, Watsonia circa 1989. The Cumberland Valley is near Cambarville which was a timber town near Marysville. Cambarville is notable for its giant mountain ash (Eucalyptus regnans) trees within the Cumberland Memorial Scenic Reserve, and relics from former sawmills and gold mining. The Big Culvert is located nearby on the Marysville - Woods Point Road, which was historically part of the Yarra Track. Cambarville was established as a timber mill town in the 1940s. Timber mill owners A Cameron and FJ Barton named Cambarville. They established the mill to salvage timber from trees destroyed in the 1939 bushfires. The Wolfram Track is named after the Wilks Creek Wolfram Mine which opened in around 1894. Wolframite is one of the principle ores of tungsten. The discovery was made in Wolfram Creek by a Mr Robinson who was probably a local of the district. Four creeks eventually proved to carry alluvial deposits of the ore; Wolfram Creek, Opas Creek, Quartz Creek and Main Creek.
