This mug is one of a number of items which were made to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the settlement of Warrnambool. It was made by Ian Sadler at the Potter’s Wheel which operated from 74 Liebig Street Warrnambool from around the 1970’s to around 2010. This item is significant in that it is an item which marks the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the settlement of Warrnambool. This is a unique example of a hand drawn plane table sheet produced in the first year of the Australian Survey Corps by original members of the Corps. Roseblade and Lynch 5 Dec 1915. Of interest is the documented times that it took to create the original field sheet. Also of interest is the fact that this field sheet that was used to create the actual SYDNEY map sheet was contoured, many map sheets produced up until now were purely planimetric and lacked contouring that was needed for military use. Form No. TYE-3-590 The upper portion has a gummed strip on the rear, with price and ticket number printed onto the lower edge. The lower portion was retained by the sender, was to be initialled by the conductor, organisation name, "Parcel Ticket 10c", conditions of use, ticket number and a space where to be initialled by the conductor. This photograph shows the Lower Light at Flagstaff Hill, Warrnambool, in 1895, part of the Lady Bay Lighthouse Complex. The photograph is part of the Western Victoria collection produced in 1891 by Brookes' Photographic Union in Victoria. Brookes' Photographic Union was a collaboration of two brothers, Frederick Augustus Brookes and his brother Albert Edward Brookes. Frederick arrived in Victoria in the early 1880's. He and Albert formed the organisation to produce collections of photographs including the districts of Geelong, Gippsland and the Western Victoria. This photograph was taken and published just after the construction of the Warrnambool Breakwater. The image records a snapshot of the construction of the Warrnambool Breakwater, a construction that changed the history of the Port of Warrnambool, It is also a record of the Flagstaff Hill area and at that time.Photograph, sepia coloured rectangular shape, mounted between two sheets of cream card. Border of photograph is decorated with pen lines and design in corners. Subject is the Warrnambool Harbour, with a lighthouse on a hill in the foreground, a light coloured picket fence, the harbour with a moored vessel and a jetty.
