It had several locations (mostly near the centre of town) over the years and several operators including local families such as the Ryders, the Drummonds, the Coads, the Hollonds and more recently the Talbots and Ryders. The agency was run in conjunction with another business - currently with the Tawonga Store.An historical account of a small but important business run in a small rural town. The British Army 14th/20th King's Hussars was affiliated with 20th Australian Light Horse Regiment [date ?] . This affiliation carried over to 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles in 1948 and is now maintained in the affiliation of the Queens Royal Hussars and 4th/19th Prince of Wales's Light Horse following various amalgamations and linkings.Rare example of a gift between British and Australian regiments.Metal figurine on a turned wooded base depicting an hussar. This reliquary (container for relics) contains a relic of St Therese of the Infant Jesus. A relic may be a piece of clothing, or some object associated with the saint. Issued to Brother Clyde Warren on his enrollment as a member of the I O R Young Australia Tent No 142 (Harcourt), on the 4th May 1915, signed by Isaac James, Superintendant & Bro R Grant, Secretary of the Junior Rechabite Lodge. A necessary pre requisite to membership was 'signing the pledge' to abstain from liquor.A reminder of the Temperance movement and its important role in developing a moral framework for the youth of the district. Harcourt was a ‘dry’ district for upwards of eighty years due to the influence of the Temperance movement. Pre-printed certificate with gold-leaf heading over a colourful crest, , scenes of safety in the ark, a rowboat leaving a shipwreck & St George slaying the dragon, two heralds (male & female) bearing temperance banners and, at the foot, a tripartite crest bearing the southern cross and resting in wattle. This photograph shows the relaunching of the P.S Adelaide in 1984. The P.S Adelaide had sat in Hopwood Gardens since 1961 when the City of Echuca had bought the boat and returned it to Echuca. The relaunch involved digging a slipway down into the river, which this photograph shows. The paddle steamer was finally returned to the river on the 4th March 1984.This photograph is significant because it shows the P.SAdelaide being returned to the river after sitting in the Hopwood Gardens as a stationary exhibit . The P.S Adelaide is only one of two of the oldest known wooden hulled paddle steamers still operating in the world. The P.S Adelaide was the first paddle steamer bought by the City of Echuca. The P.S Adelaide celebrated her 150th birthday in 2016. Letter from Martin Middlebrook to F.G. Davey requesting information about the 'Raid on Nuremburg' about which Middlebrook was writing a book. Part of the F.G. Davey Collection.
