Dr Donald Thomson's gate and entrance to his property 'Worlingworth' after flooding in March 1961 "Worlingworth", Eltham, was the home of noted anthropologist the late Professor Donald Thomson and his wife Dorita. The entrance gate on Banoon Road is located at the bottom of the hill opposite Haldane Road. The flooding issues were regularly reported to Council following heavy rain. Situated in the wetlands on the trail opposite the Pontville Homestead, former home of Major Charles Newman and across the Yarra River from Sweeneys Flats, Eltham. Newman also purchased Allotment 5, Section 2 (in Ely Street, Eltham) at public autction on 17 September 1851. The September 5, 1912 issue of Table Talk celebrated "Wattle Day" where new plantings are made of the national flower and featured images from both Melbourne as well as the first excursion to Hurstbridge. This significant tree located near the Main Road Bridge and Diamond Creek Trail footbridge over the Diamond Creek at Eltham dates back to the early 1900s. The original timber bridge over the Diamond Creek was built around 1840. It was destroyed by floodwaters in October 1923. A temporary bridge was rigged up but further damaged in April 1924. A new concrete bridge was built and opened in October 1926.
