In 1916 a jumble sale took place in the Sunbury Common School building and afternoon tea was also available. Violet Boardman is the lady seated. The first Sunbury Common School No. 604 was built in 1871 in Macedon Street, between Barkly and O'Shanassy Streets, with 32 students enrolled. By 1910 the building was in a bad state of repair and was replaced with a new Federation style brick building, that opened on 2 May 1912 and was renamed Sunbury State School No. 1002. The building is Our Lady of Mount Carmel School which is attached to the Catholic Church of the same name. Initially a school was established on this site in 1877 with classes conducted in the church. A new two roomed brick building was erected on the site on 23rd January 1916 and were opened by Archbishop Mannix. There were further additions to the school as enrolments increased in 1925. The school caters for primary school aged students. With the development of tertiary education in the 1960s and 1970s the Ballarat School of Mines asked Coburn and Associates to design new buildings for the Ballarat School of Mines site, utilising the Ballarat Gaol site. The City of Ballarat unanimously resolved to erect a Civic Hall in 1951. The architects, Gordon Murphy, of Melbourne, and H.L. and L.J. Colburn, of Ballarat, were commissioned in 1952. The Council constructed the foundations and footings for the building under the supervision of the former City engineer, Mr L.H. Finch, in 1953. These footings are of massed concrete. The design for the building took advantage of the cross fall of the land, providing for the Small Hall to be entered from the Doveton Street frontage through a foyer under the Main Stage, the structure is steel with brick panels, with accommodation for 1,592 persons in the Main Hall and 440 persons in the Lower Hall. This is the Warren Street residence of the owners of the bakery, which was situated behind this building. The owners were John and Florence Warren who ran the bakery until the 1960's when it was taken over by their daughter Ida and son-in-law Robert Greer. The old Echuca Post Office was built circa 1877, a two-storey stucco building with a clock tower over the entrance, on the north east corner of Hare and Anstruther streets. In the front of the building is a small cream brick kiosk used as a bus stop and as a stall for charity group's to sell produce. On the far northern corner the spire of St.Mary's church can be seen above the roof of the Post Office.The old Echuca Post office is at the northern end of the shopping precinct in Hare street Echuca. The building is a beautiful grand building of the late 1870's which was built as a post office on the ground floor and a residence above. The small kiosk building in front of the post office was used by volunteer organisations to raise money selling cakes etc. at various times of the year.Colour photograph (post card size) of Echuca Post Office looking north.
