In 1893, a group of Orbost farmers formed together to initiate the Orbost Butter Factory. The first factory was built in Lochiel Street and was a wooden building. In 1916, a new building was constructed on Forest Road. This was a more substantial brick building which had its own power source. Electric power, mainly for lighting was supplied to the developing township of Orbost by the Butter Factory. This docket is an invoice for the supply of power to the household or business of C. Tomlinson in 1952. The Butter Factory power was the only power to Orbost prior to the 1962 when S E C power came to Orbost. Documentation dated January 1974 obtained by Legatee Trebilcock as a member of the Steering Committee (Residences) which had been formed to advise on the future of the Melbourne Legacy residences. See also Cat.No. 01676. The document describes the location and the buildings in detail noting that the location on Burke Road is a very good one and the buildings were quite sound. See also Cat. Set of 7 images of the last built (1925) cable tram car house or depot in Howard St North Melbourne. This building replaced the Flemington Road car house when the cable tram track in Flemington Road was electrified during July 1925. The building is on the Heritage Register - see reference. When closed in 1935, it was subsequently sold to a furniture company. In 2017 it was occupied by City Prestige Automobiles. Very close to entrance of Victoria Park this view is looking southwest along Crofton Street to intersection with Dickson.. The State Electricity Commission of Victoria constructed the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme. Their public relations employees published booklets to promote the Scheme and the area. In the early 1970s the eastern approach to Sunbury was changed. The stone bridge spanning the Jacksons Creek was replaced by a wider concrete structure and dangerous curves were taken out of the road. On 23rd March 1936, the Australian Motorist Petrol Company, (Ampol) was incorporated in NSW. It was the first oil company that the Australian public could buy shares in. It was listed on the Stock Exchange in 1948 as Ampol Petroleum Ltd. David Clarke (Head Teacher) and his sister, Catherine are standing in the centre of the group. Built with stone walls and wooden shingles on the roof. This was the first State School building which was built in 1856 and replaced with a new building in 1875 after the stone walls collapsed outwards. Station Sign - Emerald Emerald Station is situated on the Puffing Billy Railway in Victoria, Australia. It was opened with the Railway on 18 December 1900 and comprised a platform track and a loop siding. A passing loop was added between the two a few years later. There was also a spur siding off the Down end of No. 3 Road. Two standard 12 ft by 20 ft timber portable station buildings with a Van Goods Shed between (all adjoining) were provided on the platform and a Goods Shed on the No. 3 Road loop siding. Other buildings included Tea Rooms, lamp room and toilets along with a cattle race and loading bank. The station building was later reduced in length by one of the portables which housed the General and Ladies' waiting rooms. Emerald today remains very similar to the early days, but has had other Roads added into a Carriage Workshops, a turntable and storage sidings. Also, a Signal and Telegraph Branch depot in the form of a large Goods Shed and a multi-purpose yard building in the form of a Locomotive Depot administration building have been added.
