The department of Veterans Affairs organised for an Australian contingent to attend the 75th anniversary of the Gallipoli landings in April 1990. Legacy was asked to nominate 8 junior legatees to be included. This document outlines the itinerary and contains the written accounts of the trip from the 8 junior legatees. Slide, Stanhope Study, 1962
Slide photograph of girls studying at desks in a study. Believed in Stanhope from the label. Other photos appear to have been taken at the same time and are marked 14, 15, 16 (see items 02520 - 02522). Black and white hardcopy photos of these slides are at 01835. Stanhope was a residence run by Melbourne Legacy to take care of children whose fathers were deceased servicemen, and who may have been left orphans, or whose mother may have been unable to care for them herself, or they needed to stay in Melbourne for further education. Stanhope generally looked after girls over 14 either studying or working. The children were cared for until they were old enough to become independent. The slides have been photographed to make digital images and moved to archive quality sleeves. Black and white hardcopy photos of these slides are at 01835, saying it was 1962 and gave the girls names. The photo of the study room is surrounded by the names: Denise Attewell, Susan Knowles, June S., Jill Baker, Colleen, Jacky and Sandra. Has been fitted with a coin dispenser (screw and bolted in) for six different coins (50c, 20c, 10c, 5c, 2c, and 1c). 3054 - Printed form titled "Daily Traffic Revenue Statement" of the SEC, Electricity Supply Department, Provincial Tramways, on off white heavy duty paper. Gives value of tickets up to 15c, , scholar and parcel tickets, special trams, value of tickets issues, cash paid in by conductor, value of tickets collected, surplus or deficiency and hospital vouchers and Outfit number of either side of the form. Has space for branch, as at date, with signatures of Compiler. Form has number TRM 583-1 (OP109) , with two large holes on left hand side for holding or filing into accounts books. Form ruled in blue ink horizontally and red ink vertically with some horizontal lines. A similar form, printed only in black, without the holes also donated by Peter Watt. Has fare values up to 18c. Painted on treated white linen, banner used to celebrate Tram No. 27, reaching 1,000,000 miles. Has wording in large red capital letters "This tram has just completed 1,000,000 miles in Ballarat". Book, We of the Never-Never by Mrs. Aeneas Gunn, 1907
A copy of the book 'We of the Never Never' that was donated to Legacy by the author Jeannie Gunn. We of the Never Never is an autobiographical novel by Jeannie Gunn first published in 1908. Although published as a novel, it is an account of the author's experiences in 1902 at Elsey Station near Mataranka, Northern Territory in which she changed the names of people to obscure their identities. She published the book under the name Mrs Aeneas Gunn, using her husband's first and last name. A record that Legacy was given a copy of a highly successful book by its author.Red plastic covered card cover, grey dust cover with dark blue printing, black and white photo plates. A programme for a Legacy Demonstration at the Olympic Pool Stadium in 1961. Throughout the year Melbourne Legacy provided classes for Junior Legatees such as dancing, gymnastics and eurythmics, the Demonstration was an annual event to showcase their skills. Melbourne Legacy conducted Annual Demonstrations / Parades from 1928 through to 1980s, usually held at Melbourne Town Hall or Olympic Pool Stadium.
