The sulphur crested cockatoo (scientific name Cacatua galerita) is a large white parrot with dark grey-black bill, a distinctive sulphur-yellow crest and a yellow wash on the underside of the wings. Sexes are similar, although the female can be separated at close range by its red-brown eye (darker brown in the male). Sulphur-crested Cockatoos are found in a variety of timbered habitats and are common around human settlements. The birds stay in the same area all year round. Correspondence showing the return of money borrowed to fund the writing of the biography of Legatee Savige. 00782.2 and 00782.3 are letters to H.G. Brain as one of the donors who financed the publication of the biography of Sir Stanley Savige, enclosing receipts for 200 pounds (00782.1). Of particular interest is the 3d (threepenny) Victorian Stamp Duty stamp stuck to the receipts and overwritten in blue ink to denote they are duplicates, which indicative of government regulations at the time (1957). 00782.4 is a copy of a letter sent to W.B. Russell (the author) confirming the arrangements for writing and payment of the book.A record of some of the financial arrangements made by the publishing committee in order to get the biography written and published. Minister for External Affairs Lord Richard Casey visited International House in January, 1957, its first year operating as a residential college. Lord Casey was Minister for External Affairs in the Liberal-Country government from 1951 to 1960, becoming involved in patronage of International House with his wife, Lady Maie Casey. Thean Pak Ken, pictured here, was one of six Malaysian students to attend International House in its first year.
