They were only for adjustments to city section fares. Fares outside the city area remained unchanged. The SEC promoted these as being cheaper city section fares. Tom (Mr Begonia) Beaumont, death July 14, 1989, Courier newspaper. A cream-shaded begonia and a lawn at the Botanic Gardens bear the name of Ballarat's best known gardener, Tom Beaumont, who died at the weekend. The poem "Fuzzy Wuzzy Angels" was written by H. (Bert) Beros and published in the Courier Mail (Brisbane) on 31 October 1942.This poem gained popularity and was widely read and then published privately by Beros running to several editions. The bookmark produced in 1943 is an example of how revered and popular in the Australian public mind the New Guinea natives became. The Ballarat Homecoming celebrations in 1935 were claimed in the local newspaper, The Courier to be 'the greatest pageant organised in any of Victoria's provincial centres'.
