Contains a request to the Victorian Government for assistance for the a fire sprinkler system ($38,000), rebuilding ESCo tram No. 12 and relaying of the Wendouree Parade track for $165,000. Gives details of each project, including a quotation from Wormald International dated 4/6/1980, a history of ESCo No. 12, including photos and the basis of costing for the reconstruction of Wendouree Parade trackwork. Newspaper clipping from The Courier, 20/3/1963, titled "Bluebirds cause keen excitement in the city", recording the passing of the convoy of Donald Campbell's Bluebird car and speedboat through Ballarat and stopping outside the Town Hall. Photo has tramcar 14 and a bogie tram in the background. Donald Campbell himself was unable to attend. Bluebird was one the motor vehicle used in the land world speed record attempts of the era. Show many people milling around the truck carrying the trailer, barricades. People had blocked Sturt St at this point. See Reg Item 3734 for a print of the photograph. Yields information about the accidents and derailments in Ballarat and collisions with vehicles that resulted in injuries to the driver and major damage to vehicles or passengers.Newspaper clipping from The Courier, 16/4/54 and hand written notes on the collision between with a semi trailer and tram No. 37. Has details of the recovery using tram 21. Newspaper cutting gives details of those trammies involved, Dave Kellett and Herbert Ward. Collided with a semi carrying wool bales. Wal notes the tram was scrapped in 1955. Second cutting notes a derailment of a tram at the junction of Main Road and Victoria St. Noted the delays occurring. Murray Comrie Collection. Murray Comrie, born in Tarnagulla in 1912 also became a policeman and later a Chief Superintendent, retiring in 1972 and passing away in 1983 after a long illness. Murray Comrie's son Murray Jnr., to avoid confusion became known by his middle name, Neil. Neil Comrie also joined Victoria Police and rose through the ranks to become Chief Commissioner of Victoria Police from 1993 to 2001. Blue-grey archive box containing research notes of Murray Comrie. Contains: A series of 17 notepads in which Comrie has annotated historical information from local newspapers. A very long rolled up piece of paper on which is printed the Comrie family tree A yellow envelope containing photogrpahs which are low-quality and/or duplicates of other images in the Murray Comrie Collection. A ledger in which Comrie has listed every Police Station in Victoria and its establishment date. Four vinyl non-archival document binders in which Comrie's research notes and photographs were housed when donated. Material was transferred out of these for preservation reasons. Looks at the background for the proposal, operational issues and an economic evaluation, including loading and unloading, a CBD loop and capital costs. Report has a note on page 2 that it was prepared prior to tendering for new trams. Report not dated as such but on front cover has a date "c1977", though based on the note done prior to ordering new trams could be c1976. See also Reg Item 338. Book, Wool Classing Exercise Book, 1960-62
The National Wool Museum accepted a donation from Brian Licence in 2022 of several mementoes relating to his career in the wool industry. This Wool Classing Exercise Book was written by Brian in his time at the Gordon Technical College from 1960-62. Brian studied Wool Classing and worked for a decade in this profession before moving to Melbourne which required him to change careers.This Wool Classing Exercise book begins with a grey cover and a blue and silver metal binder. It has the number “240” handwritten in white pencil at the centre of the cover and “Brian Licence Animal Husbandry” written in blue ink on the top right corner. Internally, the book is handwritten with occasional hand drawn images. This work is completed on yellowed pages with faint blue lines, for assistance in clarity of handwriting. The pages are surrounded by a margin of red pen. The exercise book’s content is about basic animal husbandry for sheep that a Wool Classer may need to know while in a shearing shed. It is handwritten. A selection of pages have been photographed to give an impression of the information taught in classes 60 years ago. This includes information about: - Dentistry - Skeletal - Blood Circulation - Breathing - Internal parasites The book has 50 completed pages of handwriting on both front and back.
