Document - DUGAL MACDOUGALL BIOGRAPHY
Dugal MacDougall was born in Scotland and came to Victoria in 1852. He was initially a farmer at Kyneton and in 1855 he purchased a produce store in Golden Square but in 1859 he turned to mining. In 1861 he married Mary Ann Brocklebank (1843-1891). In 1867 he was elected to the Sutton Ward of the Sandhurst Council but resigned from this position to become the Bendigo Town Clerk, a position he held until his death in 1879. Whilst a member of the council he served as the mayor 1871-1873.Two pages letter addressed to Kay MacGregor from Geoff Crossley re. Donation of commemorative spade. The Northern District School of Nursing opened in 1950 in to address the issues around nurse recruitment, training and education that had previously been hospital based. The residential school was to provide theoretical and in-house education and practical training over three years. The students would also receive practical hands-on training in the wards of associated hospitals. The Northern District School of Nursing operated from Lister House, Rowan Street, Bendigo. This is a most comprehensive and succinct history of the Palmer/Wood family and their descendants from 1838 to 2013. Several members of the Palmer family were prominent in the history of Warrnambool and district. These include Octavius Palmer of Waarn, Claude Palmer of Dalvui, William Palmer, Manager of the Bank of Australasia in the 1860s and Thomas Palmer of Grasmere. The noted novelist, Mary Gaunt, who lived in Warrnambool for some time, was the granddaughter of Frederick and Mary Palmer. These biographical notes of the Palmer family are of some significance as they will be very useful for researchers.These are 13 pages of printed notes enclosed in a folder with a clear plastic front cover and a black plastic back cover.
