This file contains one item: 1/A carbon copy of a typed history of Corams Hughesdale Dairy, from the early days in 1925 to 1977, in Stewart St. The dairy was run for three generations. Black & white photograph 20cm x 25cm of the Bendigo Butter Factory in Mundy St., mounted on cardboard. It appears to have been part of a display, with explanatory notes attached to each photograph. See 11011.28. On the reverse of the title photograph is the date 1950-1955. There is a blue registration stamp with the words 'Pure creamery, Australia, Victoria regd'. On the back of the board. This photograph is of the front entrance to the factory with cream urns being delivered by truck. The signs 'Bendigo Butter Factory' and 'H&N Bendigo Butter & Ice Factory' are across the front of the building. The delivery truck bears the sign 'Holdenson & Nielson Fresh Food Pty Ltd'. Has a strong association with Elvie Phillips - at the time of the closure of the SEC system in Ballarat.Set of four colour prints - were contain within a folder (see below) of Elvie Phillips and crews at the time of the closure of the Ballarat SEC system - September 1971. .1 - standing on the step of a bogie tram with crew member number 58 behind. .2 - City loop with two crew members on either side - and three bogie trams .3 - standing in front of a single trucker, City Loop - with the Union Hotel behind. .4 - sitting on the bumper of a single trucker, Wendouree Parade, Gardens area with a crew member alongside. Printed on Kodak paper. Note - these type of photographs were common at the end of the SEC system - many people had these taken. Always in the way of the tram enthusiasts! Newspaper clipping titled: “Tram burns after collision with truck” – The Age 5/9/70 “Quite heroes drag driver from flames” by Robert Parsonage Tram and semi-trailer crash in Thornbury, Route # 9A, driver Bill Armitage suffered a broken right leg and arm and severe burns to most of his body, in critical condition in Preston and Northcote Community Hospital. Semi-trailer driver, Brian Carroll, 25 received burns and is in serious condition in hospital. Conductor Ted Clark, about 35, not injured and helped only passenger, and elderly woman from the tram. Set of seven Kodak white cardboard 35mm colour slides by Len Millar of the move of former VR tram No. 34 from Yarrambat to the TMSV site at Bylands on 18/4/1974. Reference June 1974 issue of Trolley Wire. Note the Brill 77E trucks i the background were obtained at the same time. These would have been 5'3" gauge and it would appear that the tram was placed on a set of MMTB No. 1 trucks. Len Millar advised 21-7-2021 - that Trolley Wire says that the tram was obtained from a private property on the banks of thee Plenty River at Yarrambat, It was perched on a steep slope only 50 metres from the house, but two kilometres in from the nearest road. Born in England in 1832, Albert Bush was attracted to Australia by the lectures of Dr Laing. In 1852 he travelled to Queensland and later to Sydney before coming to Bendigo. His initial mining efforts were not successful so he gained employment as a clerk in a grocery store. In 1857 he opened his own grocery shop in partnership with Mr Ferris. He bought out Ferris in 1859. In 1859 he married Jane Dalton (1836-1919). Following his death the business was continued by his son.Albert Bush's Stores Invoice. Demonstrates the source of the tramcars for both Ballarat. Gives details on equipment, sizes and seating capacity of the tramcars as at August 1964 with hand written notes about the acquisition and disposal of some of the tramcars.Printed List of trams and their details for Ballarat Trams ( similar to item 3430.1), dated 5-September-1966, titled "Numbers and Particulars of Trams". Handwritten notes have been made for the acquisition dates for the tramcar and disposal details of the vehicle along the top edge. 3430 - Ballarat - typed carbon copy - two sheets, were taped together. Gives details of where purchased from , date of purchase, type, body builder, seating capacity, overall length, overall height, overall width, condition of tram, trolley base, Lightning arrester, controller make and type, Truck Maker and type, type of truck, axle type, wheel base, axle diameter, motors type and maker, Motor horsepower, Armature bearings, suspension bearings, gear teeth, Air compressor make and type, Brake Valves make and type, Governor make and type, Weight in tons and details of advertising space in racks. Toll Gates, Wangaratta Toll Bridge, Mid 19th Century
Wangaratta Toll Gates were erected after the punt was sunk and the new bridge over the Ovens river was opened in 1855; a charge was made for people, animals, carts, cars and buses and trucks later on. A gatehouse keeper lived in a residence near the gates to charge users when they crossed. The gates were refurbished by the students at the local GOTAFE college and are being rehoused as a feature of the river beautification works along the Ovens River.The Toll Gates were on the first (and only bridge at the time) that crossed near the junction of the Ovens & King rivers at Wangaratta in the mid 1800's. Black and white photograph of CW5 684, route 70 outbound in Batman Ave. Ray Pearson's photo listing dates the photo as 1937. The CW5 tramcar was effectively a W5 tram using Brill 22E bogies or trucks as an economy measure during the mid-1930s. The trams were underpowered, with MMTB No. 15 bogies being fitted in 1956. The Kraft Walker Cheese Co Pty Ltd entered into an agreement with Warrnambool Cheese and Butter Factory Company in 1935 whereby the Kraft company leased premises from WCB. This arrangement remained in place until the 1990s. WCB took over the Garvoc factory in the 1920s. It became outdated and was eventually demolished.Black and white photograph showing timbered building with iron roof and turned wooden finial on the gable end. There are three timber ventilation ducts on the roof. The gable end has sign Kraft Walker Cheese Co Pty Ltd Garvoc Branch. A concrete block addition is at the front.
