Set of two notebook or lined journals, with light brown pig skin binding strips and in each of the corners binding, faint ruled Collins 4393 books with red labels on the outside binding, sewn sections, printed glued inside covers. Each book has been ruled in red ink, headed year and month, days, page totals with data entered for each depot of the distance or mileage or kilometres for each date, including separate tram and bus entries. .1 - Blue cloth covered with Letraset, black plastic strip on outside "Tram / Bus Kilometres" for the period 1-7-1965 to 30-6-1975. Notes change over to Kms from miles on 1/7/1974. .1 - undated letter, titled "Closure of Williamstown train service", advising of the closure of the line, pending a date and redeployment, surplus staff and other employment issues. A similar letter would have been prepared for the Upfield line. .2 - letter dated 6/1/1993 titled "Metropolitan Rail System - Service Alterations and closures" announcing that the Minister for Public Transport, announced the closure of the Newport to Williamstown lines and the Upfield rail line, along with reduction of services on other lines and that a voluntary departure package (termination of employment) is available. Has a detailed list of lines affected and bus replacement on rear. Page corners have been rounded. Produced by the MMTB Chief Engineer's Dept, mid 1920's? Provides guidance, rules, instructions for distribution employees in the management of sub-stations, safety. Includes reference to specific employees in the instructions and on the rear page has a single line diagram of Connections for Tramways Board supply from Angliss to Tramways Substation. Angliss was provided with power from, the VR Railways 20000V bus and has specific instructions in the document. Includes reference to Carlton Control. Document issued under the order of T.P. A souvenir from one of the last trams to Port Melbourne. Both the South Melbourne and Port Melbourne cable lines closed on this date. The South Melbourne line was converted to electric traction; the Port Melbourne line was replaced by a bus service. Report by the Victorian Parliamentary Public Works Committee on "The Plenty Road, Preston, Tramway Extension Inquiry" - 1967. The inquiry examined the MMTB's proposal to extend the East Preston line 0.7miles or 1.3km. The Committee took evidence from the MMTB, bus operators, the Victorian Railways, residents, La Trobe University, Preston City Council and others. The Committee recommended against the proposal. The report lists those members of Parliament involved. The line was subsequently extended by 1.2 kilometres from Tyler Street to Boldrewood Parade during 1983 and subsequently to Bundoora.
