This letter accompanies a Crawford Productions publicity brochure and a set of scripts for The Flying Dogtor. A synopsis of the six adventures is included. The programs are each five minutes and will be aired starting March or April 1964. Document regarding the abandonment of tramways in Ballarat and Bendigo. Presented to State Parliament Sept. 1970 by the MInister for Fuel and Power, the Hon J C M Balfour MLA. Outlines the losses incurred by the SEC, replacement public transport system, the worn out nature of the system, the gifting of one Bendigo tramcar to the AETM, costs of track repairs and new trramcars, tenders for replacement bus services, retrenchment payments to staff, reconstruction of existing roads following removal of the tracks, and town planning and traffic aspects. Includes a photo of a bus and interior seating. Notice No. D6406 and D6407, issued to advise Drivers and Conductors of the through trams from St Kilda Beach to Caulfield Racecourse, via Dandenong Road on Showday 30-9-1948. Gives the fares to be charged for each section for both the forward and return journeys. Second page gives the fares for special trams from the Racecourse to Cotham Road Kew - minimum fare for 4d. Gestetner reproduced 'State Electricity Commission of Victoria / Ballarat Electricity Supply and Tramways / Rules Governing Depot Employees' consisting of three pages and a single page "Rules Governing Track Repair Employees", with welding repair notes on the rear in pencil and ink showing location and where welds done and some dates (1958). Document details General rules such as hours of duty, fire, accidents behaviour; Depot Operation - Safety Rules detailing many procedural rules about work safety on trams. In 1878, Mrs Charlotte Anderson founded an private school for girls in her home at Bulleen Road, Kew (now 63 High Street South, Kew). She moved her school to ‘Edgecomb’, in Studley Park Road in 1882 and named it Ruyton. Charlotte Anderson retired in 1888, and sold her school to Miss Eliza Bromby. This image was used to illustrate The Ruytonian, June 1915, p2. Interview titled "Woman at War - by Catherine Duncan - Interviews with women in Industry No. 1 - interviews Mrs. Hammond a Melbourne Tram Conductress", dated 5/1943. ABC Shortwave Division. An announcer introduces Catherine Duncan, who then introduces Nita Hammond who featured in a poster on the tram called "She's Helping You". Her husband is serving overseas, prior to becoming a conductress, was just an ordinary housewife, describes the training, learning on the job to collect fares, making friends son the job, was stationed at Head Office, American servicemen, finishing up after the war.Demonstrates the work of the ABC during 1943 and has a close association with Catherine Duncan and Nita Hammond.Radio Transcript or script, 7 foolscap pages, duplicated. Walter Withers (1854-1914) was born in Handsworth, Warwickshire, England. He migrated to Australia in 1882 and in time was to become one of the country's most famous painters. In 1887/8 he spent a year in London and Paris during which time he married Fanny Flinn. When he returned to Melbourne he was engaged by publishers doing black and white illustrations. In the late 1880's he became associated with artists who formed the renowned "Heidelberg School" and in 1890 moved to "Charterisville" at Eaglemont. He lived in the Heidelberg area until 1903 when he purchased a house on two and a half acres (one hectare) at the corner of Brougham and Bolton Streets, Eltham. He had long been attracted to the Eltham area, but needed access to Melbourne for his painting classes. The extension of the railway in 1901 made the move possible. He remained in Eltham until his death and is buried at nearby St Helena. Many of his important paintings were painted during these later years. There are important collections at the National Gallery of Victoria and the Geelong Art Gallery. His Eltham house remains and his name is honoured by a small park at the corner of Bible and Arthur Streets. This is one of a series of photos donated by Arthur Lyons. From 1907 a cab service operated from near the railway gates in Union Road. It was established and maintained by Mr C Fraser until c1916. George Rea either took over then or set up in opposition; he retired in 1945. Fred Lyons initially worked for George until he set up his own business. In time he changed over to a motor vehicle and continued his service until 1960. Frederick Adolphus Lyons (1891-1980) was born in Surrey Hills, son of Thomas and Catherine Lyons. He married Elizabeth Ruby Hall in 1918. They lived just around the corner at 55 Sunbury Crescent. The Lyons’ home in Sunbury Crescent was called ‘Knopshambury’ - this was probably a misspelling of Knockshanbally in Co Kilkenny, the birth place of Fred’s father, Thomas Edmund Josias Lyons (1846-1915). Arthur Lyons was born in Surrey Hills on 12 Jun 1920. He became a motor mechanic / welder and lived at 55 Sunbury Crescent. W T Nisbe... is probably William Thomson Nisbet, traveller of 'Maroona', Brenbeal Street, Balwyn listed in 1903, 1914, 1919 electoral rolls. His wife was Mary Grace Nisbet, son was William Thomson Nisbet Jnr (clerk) and daughter was Olive Thomson Nisbet (dressmaker). The donation was made while he was in hospital. He died shortly afterwards (23 Sep 1990). Donation was finalised by a neighbour, Mrs Florence Ann Armitstead, wife of Glen Victor Armitstead. Glen was a local hairdresser. They moved to 11 Sunbury Crescent after their marriage in 1939. Arthur had no relatives to distribute the material to.Black and white photo of Fred Lyons in one of his hansom cabs with his horse 'Barney' taken near Surrey Hills railway station.
