This file contains one item about the Caulfield RSL’s newsletter: 1/Five issues (nos. 26, 33, 35, 42, and 44) of Furfs, the official newsletter of the Caulfield RSL, dated 12/2000, 05/2004, 10/2005, 12/2007, and 11/2009 respectively. The issues vary in size (numbering 12, 6, 1, 8, and 8 pages, respectively) and consequently, in terms of breadth of content. Most, however, report on the Club’s recent activities, list the current administrative staff, eulogise recently deceased members, and contain advertisements for goods and services of interest to members. All except the shortest also contain numerous black-and-white photographs of members participating in various events. Nor must Mr. H W Gregory, the Acting Conductor's part be forgotten. He worked assiduously and earnestly, doing all possible to keep up the high standard of the Society's work. The programme presented to-night is also the result of his interpretation of the descriptive works of these modern composers, In bidding farewell to him at this Concert the Committee and members desire to express their thanks for the energy with which he has carried out the duties of Acting Conductor. We expect, at a very early date to the return of Mr. W C Frazier to Bendigo. He is bringing, with him a choice of selection of the very latest and best of English and other part songs (both of the earlier composers and of the ultra-modern school) and patrons can look forward to a fine series of programmes. Identification provided by the donor, Mrs Ruth Edgar (nee Johns), as follows: Back row - L to R: Miss Hilda Davis (later Mrs F A McLaughlin), of 16 Valonia Avenue, aged 103 in 1995 and the only one in the photo then alive; E Murray Johns, eldest son of Rev and Mrs Wesley Johns of Mont Albert; he married and built a home in Scheele Street and lived there until he was promoted to Head Office of the Bank of NSW; brother of the donor; Miss Ethel Street from Wodonga, daughter of Mrs Theresa Street in the front row; an unidentified friend; Mr Walter E Davis, Manager of the Telegraph Branch of the G.P.O. and a keen member of the Surrey Hills Bowling Club, owner of 40 Windsor Crescent and an active member of the Surrey Hills Methodist Church. The photo was enlarged & reprinted from a 75 year-old photo 2 inches by 3 inches by a local firm "Think Negative" in Mont Albert.
