The store is understood to have been first owned by the Treloar and Nicholls families before being purchased by J. H. Morgan (father of H. R.. Morgan) in the early 1900s.Black and white copy of original photograph which shows the general store run by three generations of the Morgan family when it was being managed by H. R. Morgan (between 1930 and 1956). The photograph shows a store with large windows, a square parapet, and a verandah which is supported by four posts. A petrol bowser is outside the store near the road on the right of the photo. A sign on the parapet reads 'LINTON ECONOMIC STORE', and a sign across the verandah reads 'H.R. The photograph is dated to between 1927 and 1932, as the Nelson house has been renovated (this happened in 1927). Dan Cornish sold his shoe shop in 1932 (it became Murrell's newsagency). Black and white image which shows buildings in Sussex Street, Linton. The building in the foreground, the Linton Public Library, has a car parked in front of it. Other buildings are the house owned by the Nelson family, the Railway Hotel, Dan Cornish's shoe shop and the weighbridge. A gas lamp is attached to the verandah of the library building. Conveyance document, Conveyance document, 1863 : sale of Allotment 15, Section 1, Township of Linton : Henry Franks to William Hugill
The land (with improvements) was sold for £650. Henry Franks had purchased the land for £16.15s at the Sale of Special Lands at Linton in 1861. The land, on the corner of Sussex and Clyde Streets, Linton, was later owned by David McFadzean, and after his death by several generations of the Barr/Greenbank families. It is understood that David McFadzean built the house there in 1873. John Wearne migrated to Victoria from Cornwall in 1853. He was living in the Lintons/Smythesdale district by 1858, where he had mining interests. He married Ann McGie in 1865, after his first wife Selina Harris (married 1858) died in 1860. John and Ann Wearne had ten children, all born at Linton. The Barry sisters ran a private music school at their home in Cumberland Street in Linton, near the present-day Catholic Presbytery. (The Catholic Church bought the land for the Presbytery from the Barry family.) The photograph is dated by the estimated age of Jessie Blurton, one of the pupils in the photgraph, who was born in 1890 and appears to be fifteen or sixteen in the photograph. Dr George Scantlebury (1860-1923) was a medical practitioner in Linton in the late 1880s. While practising there, he married the local postmistress Catherine Millington Baynes. Their first child Vera (born at Linton in 1889) also became a doctor, served overseas during World War 1 and was later recruited by the Victorian Health Department to establish Infant Welfare Centres around the state. The Scantlebury family moved to Cheltenham in1889.Black and white photograph. Head and shoulders portrait of a man with receding hair and a moustache, wearing a suit and tie. Photograph taken in 1990 of a white marble memorial to Samuel and Annie Lewers. The memorial was erected by the congregation in 1897 at St Paul's Church of England, Linton. Samuel Lewers was the first manager of the Linton branch of the Bank of NSW, a Justice of the Peace, and first President of Shire of Grenville. The entire Lewers family was deeply involved in church life, Samuel Lewers having played a prominent role in raising money to build the church. Samuel Lewers died in 1895 and the memorial was dedicated on 15.03.1897. Clarkesdale Bird Sanctuary was developed in Linton on Linton-Happy Valley Rd by Gordon Clarke O.A.M.
