Thankfully there was no damage to our property. As May 2012 will be the 150th Anniversary of ‘The Moorabbin Roads Board’, Ms Elizabeth Triarico, Glen Eira CC History & Heritage , has requested a CD of photos, which has been sent, and Ms Suzanne Snooks, Arts & Culture Manager Kingston CC, invited CMHS to assist with a Celebration of this event. Helen Stanley, Secretary of CMHS, began producing a Newsletter for members in April 2007 to provide current information and well researched items of historical interest Helen retired in 2012 and Dr Bill Richardson, Secretary CMHS produced this NewsletterDr Bill Richardson, Secretary, has taken on the role of producing the bimonthly Newsletter for CMHS following the resignation of Helen Stanley. The Victorian Government Legislation has a new set of Model Rules that we have been invited to adopt and modify if we feel necessary. Our conclusion is that the new Model Rules are generally comprehensive and adequate, and are simple to understand. We recommend that the new model rules be adopted with some possible additions.A4 paper x 2 pages printed on one side. This is the first of the bi-monthly, City of Moorabbin Historical Society Newsletter produced by Society member and Secretary, Dr. Bill Richardson in April 2013. YouTube video of the Cottage is up and running. Type Box Cottage in search engine. City of Glen Eira properties staff inspected Cottage, found all ok and organised some photographs for the Glen Eira residents’ handbook. Dennis has installed the new display cabinets that he built for the barn for the tools that were displayed in the dairy. This was funded by CGE Community Grant . We will need to decide on the Model Rules and our purposes as required by the new Victorian Government legislation. Photocopied newspaper cutting from Bendigo Advertiser 22nd Dec 1952, pertaining to donation of Joseph Brady bound notebooks. Brady was engineer of the Bendigo Waterworks in 1858 and accepted appointment as engineer to the contractors of the construction of a segment of the Melbourne Sandhurst railway. One book was related to the Bendigo Waterworks containing particulars of Crusoe Reservoir. The other surrounding Cornish & Bruce contracts for the middle section of the Mt Alexander Railway. Books donated to Bendigo by Mrs A Strickland of Currie King Island, Brady's granddaughter. These forceps belonged to the late Colin Noel de Garis. Also donated was a foetal scalpel electrode applicator- see donation form. There is a note that former honorary curator Peter Renou collected the donation. Peter Renou does not recall being involved in the donation.( Source: Grainne Murphy 15 November 2010.) This design of obstetrical forceps, with a screw in the handle, was introduced by George Thomson Elliot (1827-1871), a New York obstetrician. (Source: National Museum of American History, 'Obstetrical forceps') The 'sliding pivot' on the forceps was designed to prevent the compression of the baby's head. (Source: Elliot, GT, 'Description of a new midwifery forceps : having a sliding pivot to prevent compression of the foetal head, with cases', c.1860)"The Elliot forceps and its modifications (Elliot, Tucker-McLane, Tucker-Luikart) have shorter blades and an accentuated cephalic curve that is more suitable for a rounded fetal head that has not undergone extensive molding. In addition, Elliot instruments, because of their overlapping shanks, do not distend the perineum in the same way as the separated shanks of the Simpson-type forceps."
