8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles Regimental Collection
Uniform - VMR battledress
This style of winter uniform was standard in the Australian Army 1950-1990. The 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles was raised as a regiment of the Royal Australian Armoured Corps on 1 May 1948 with Headquarters in Melbourne and squadrons in Sale, Benalla/Wangaratta and Albury. In 1955 Regimental Headquarters moved to Wangaratta and a second squadron was located at Albury. The Sale squadron transferred to 4th/19th Prince of Wales’s Light Horse. In 1977 8/13 VMR Regiment was reduced to an independent squadron A Squadron 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles and in 1991 was linked with 4th/19th Prince of Wales’s Light Horse forming the VMR Squadron of that regiment.Khaki battledress jacket, trousers and tie, Victorian Mounted Rifles shoulder titles, lieutenant badges of rank on epaulettes, and plastic buttons. uniform, vmr, army -

This shirt has an 'R' on each board indicating that the wearer had retired. Part of the Reverend Chaplain Major Thomas Bruce Williams, No556101, Collection.Khaki short sleeved polyester shirt with two button down breast pockets. A pair of boards are attached to the epaulettes, each with a major's insignia, a letter R and chaplains' department badge. On each collar is a gold coloured metal gross. A purple lanyard is threaded under the right epaulette, around the right sleeve and secures to the right breast pocket.
