Confidential report dated 11th November 1970 by Forecasting Sub-Committee chaired by A.V. Dore. Itemises occupancy from 1961-71, annual cost of the residences, auxiliary accommodation costs and Legacy manpower needed, as well as the philosophy behind providing residential care. Consideration is given to the need for accommodation, equivalent care available elsewhere, and the projected decline in the number of children needing accommodation. The Forecasting Sub-Committee recommended that a further sub-committee be appointed by the Board to enquire further along the lines suggested in this report, and this became the Residences Review Sub-Committee in 1971. Document, Legatee Brian Armstrong, One Man's Legacy. The Story of the George Knocks Fund, 1965
A photo of Legatee George Knocks from his time in the Royal Navy. George Knocks was born in the UK and joined the Royal Navy in World War 1. He later migrated to Australia and joined Legacy in 1929 until his death in 1945, he left a significant bequest to Melbourne Legacy which was used to help many people. Information from a press release in 1975 relates the story of George Knocks who joined Legacy and left a bequest that made a difference. The information was intended to be used by press and magazines etc. A longer version of the story is in the Weekly Bulletin - 29 Sept 1964 and this document prepared by Legatee Armstrong in 1965 called One Man's Legacy. Summary: George was described as a lonely ex-seaman who migrated to Australia after the first world war. He learnt about Legacy and the work with widows and children. 'He joined up as a Legatee and from that day, the pattern of life changed greatly for George. He became absorbed in his new environment and spent most of his time with the children. The mothers founding him a rugged, but completely trustworthy friend.' When George died on 14 April 1945 he was mourned by many Legacy friends. His left his property to four comrades, as trustees to use in continuing Legacy's work, this bequest became the George Knocks Fund. This is a booklet giving the names and addresses of voters for the local Council in Levy’s Ward in the City of Warrnambool in 2002. At that time the Warrnambool City Council was divided into seven Wards with one Councillor representing each Ward. The seven Wards at that time were Levy’s, Botanic, Cassady, Pertobe, Proudfoot, Sherwood, and Wollaston. In 2004 the Wards were abolished and seven Councillors then represented the whole City of Warrnambool. In October 2024, the Warrnambool municipality covered 120sqkms and returned to a seven ward council. In 2024, the wards were Botanic, Central, Hopkins River, Pertobe, Platypus Park, Russells Creek and Wollaston. In 2002 Glenys Phillpot was the Councillor representing Levy’s Ward. This booklet is of interest as it contains the names and addresses of those enrolled in Levy’s Ward in Warrnambool in 2002. It will be a useful booklet for researchers. This is a booklet of 22 pages containing the names and addresses of voters in the Levy’s Ward of Warrnambool in 2002. The cover is yellow and the booklet is bound with black taping. This bridge was built in the 1880s. By the 1980s it was in a dilapidated condition and was replaced. The old bridge was further damaged by storms and flooding in November 2010 and January 2011. (The newer bridge was completely washed away when the Springdallah Creek flooded in January 2011.)
