History of Clock Wandin North 8th Jan'y 1952. This clock was bought by the late Henry Sebire of 'Mont de Lancey' Wandin Yallock, at a clearing sale of Mrs Newey's at Seville about the year 1890; After his death in July 1902 the clock was given to his eldest son, one of his Executors, (Henry T. Sebire) of Ivanhoe, who died on 29th November 1935. On 6th February 1945 nearly 10 years later Mrs H. T. Sebire gave the clock to Wandin T. Sebire of Wandin North, who very much appreciated the gift. The clock was called for at Ivanhoe by Len Sebire, on 21st March 1945. Wandin T. Sebire. The clock was oiled and repaired by Mr Upton Watchmaker of Wandin North returned by him on 4th Dec 1951. Oiled again and returned 7th Feb. 1953.A tall narrow pendulum wooden wall clock with a white round clock face, with Roman numerals, elaborate fine hands and a brass pendulum enclosed in a glass faced compartment which has a decorative dark wood at the top. Some of the students from Bulla Primary School were taken to the local recreation ground to meet the former councillor. Pauline De Luca who was there to 'turn the first sod at the site'. The work was done by the former Bulla Shire Council on the Bulla Community Centre. A large photo of soldiers from the first World War. It is almost identical to one in the AWM. From the AWM record it is the 2nd Pioneer Battalion before they returned to Australia. From Wikipedia the 2nd Pioneer Battalion was tasked with digging trenches, labouring, constructing strong points and light railways, and undertaking battlefield clearance, the troops assigned to the pioneers required construction and engineering experience in addition to basic soldiering skills. After the Armistice personnel were repatriated to Australia in drafts as part of the gradual demobilisation of the AIF, the battalion's strength dwindled until finally it was disbanded on 18 May 1919 while in the Charleroi area of Belgium. The men are standing on the steps of the Palais de Justice in Charleroi. The lion is one of a pair made by Antoine-Felix Boure a Belgium sculptor, who was renowned for his portrayal of lions. This pair is called Totor et Tutur. The Palais de Justice was replaced by a new building in the 1960s and the lions now stand in the garden of the Palais de Justice. The soldiers wear different uniforms depending on their rank. This photo is a good example of some of them. Legatee Philip E Potts who was president in 1927-28, was a Captain in the 2nd Pioneer Battalion and is likely to be in this photo. Or the photo belonged to him. Denis Gibbons (1937 – 2011) Trained with the Australian Army, before travelling to Vietnam in January 1966, Denis stayed with the 1st Australian Task Force in Nui Dat working as a photographer. For almost five years Gibbons toured with nine Australian infantry battalions, posting compelling war images from within many combat zones before being flown out in late November 1970 after sustaining injuries. The images held within the National Vietnam Veterans Museum make up the Gibbons Collection. These 15 photographs of golf, sailing, rifle shooting and squash team and sports action were taken on Flag Day, an annual sports competition between the Army Survey Regiment (ASR) and the School of Military Survey (SMS), at Bendigo circa 1977. Sailing was most likely held at Lake Eppalock and rifle shooting at Wellsford Rifle Range. The venues for golf and squash are unknown. The two RA Svy units took turns each year to host the event. The day competition usually comprised basketball, cross country, golf, sailing, squash softball, tennis, rifle shooting, touch football, tug-of-war and volleyball. The evening competition often included darts, carpet bowls, hookey, quoits and snooker.
