Previously published as The Snowy River mail and Tambo and Croajingolong gazette from 1890 to 1911. The Gippsland Courier merged with the Snowy River Mail when proprietor Lachlan Ross moved to Orbost in 1910. In 1999 the paper was acquired by the Yeates family when the Hollins family retired from the newspapers business. The paper is still being produced by the fourth generation of the Yeates family as part of East Gippsland Newspapers. They also produce the Bairnsdale Advertiser, the East Gippsland News and the Lakes Post and the yearly publications East Gippsland Visitor Guide and the Great Alpine Road Touring Guide. Clare Roper maintained and collected historical articles from the local newspapers especially those pertaining to the local area and of interest to the Kiewa Valley.Clare Roper grew up and lived in the Kiewa Valley at Tawonga. She was a member of the Kiewa Valley Historical Society for many years.Black with thin alternating red and white strips from top to bottom 'Photo Album' used to attach newspaper clippings dated from the 1950s to the 1990s. The articles are of historical interest and include many from the Kiewa Valley. The Album has 3 metal rings which snap open and shut. There are approximately 60 pages each with a clear plastic sheet that opens up to allow insertion of the newspaper article. Two articles that relate to the annual demonstration in 1977. The demonstration was called 'Legacy on Parade' for a number of years. The junior legatees were dressed in costumes, for the production of 'My Fair Lady'. They were Leanne Johnston and Terri Cott in long dressed, and Roseanne Whitehead as Eliza Doolittle and John Fiedler as her father Alfred. The articles were cut from the newspaper and pasted into a scrapbook. For many years Legacy kept scrapbooks of press clippings that related to their work and publicity. Melbourne Legacy would hold Christmas parties for junior Legatees at Government House for many years due to the Governor of Victoria being patron of Legacy. Two photos show the Governor Sir Dallas Brooks the reins of a miniature mail coach drawn by two small ponies. Sitting with the Governor is 10 year old Sandra Fitzpatrick of Moe. Children would come from all over Victoria. Two other photos show archery with the Kew City Bowman providing instruction of archery to the children.
