Ornament, Triaca & Picchi figurine, c1930
Part of the Uebergang Collection. Made by the firm of Triaca & Picchi. Camilo Triaca (1887-1972) was a sculptor born Tuscany, Italy. He arrived in Melbourne in 1909 and practised his craft in Richmond, Melbourne, before returning to Italy in 1914 to serve in the Italian Army. He returned to Melbourne in 1923 and continued to sculpt at his Richmond home before relocating to Fitzroy. A 1927 image of workers at his studio workshop taking a lunch break is in the Italian Historical Society collection (http://trove.nla.au/version172106091). The workshop was situated at 76-78 King William St, Fitzroy.Plaster figurine depicting a boat with a girl sitting in the front holding the rope of an anchor and a boy holding the back of the boat which is up on the sand. The girl wears a short sleeved frock with green edged neck and sleeves, and a matching scarf. Robert Cochrane, 1843 - 1935, regarded as the "father" of Congregationalism in Victoria was chairman of directors of Brooks Ttnhinsnn Ptv.. Ltd.. and one of the leading personalities of the Congregational Union of Victoria. After having spent two years in Victoria as a member of Brooks Robinson Pty., Ltd., Mr. Cochrane returned to England in 1869. In 1883, he returned to Melbourne. On His return to Victoria he became interested in the work of the Congregational Church, and joined the Augustine Church, at Hawthorn in 1886; he was senior deacon when he died. For many years Mr. Cochrane was a senior member of the committee of the Congregational College of Victoria, and he took a leading part in the development of Congregationalism in this Victoria. Many benefited by his generosity and philanthropy, and his interest in the work of the church was combined with a generous assistance to child welfare organisations, including the Sunday School Union, the Kindergarten Union and the Boys Brigade. Story of fleeing Berlin during Kristallnacht November 1938. Written by a Dunera boy who chose to return in 1942. The ship he was traveling in was torpedoed by a German submarine before he could reach England. Book A5 in size, soft cover, black, red and grey cover. Title is slightly diagonally across front cover in white capital letters. Illustration of a man looking back at a train in the background in grey red and black. Red spine with title in white and name of author grey both in capital letters. Back of the book is a dark purple/red colour with small train illustration at bottom in red and grey. Bendigo Advertiser ''The way we were'' from 2002. Yummy: the original owner of this ice-cream van sold it to Granny Robins for 20 pounds before returning to India. The Bendigo council gave Ms Robins' son George permission to make and sell ice-cream on the streets of Bendigo between 7pm and 9pm each night. The delicacies were sold for one penny each, or with wafers for two pennies. Otherwise, the customer could trade two empty beer bottles for an ice-cream. Education Department Victoria War Service Record 1914-1919, hard cover contains 313 pages with black and white photographs. Originally presented to Bolger's Road School. Note pasted inside front cover states that the book was presented to William Graham when the school closed to be returned when a new school was built. As this did not happen, he presented the book to his friend Harry J Collins whose Record of Service appears in the book. Dated 1.1.1950.
