The cap was swapped for a packet of " Dereske." cigarettes by Bill Theodore, PM2981 when he was on HMAS Vendetta. The cap was from a German POW who was being taken out of Tobruk on the Vendetta. William Anthony Theodore DSM, enlisted on 2.9.40 in the RAN. Served Seige of Tobruk, Greece, Crete, Matapan, Singapore, Pacific Islands, New Guinea to the Phillipines. The Vendetta made some 39 runs into Tobruk Harbour during the Seige. In Oct 41 so many Bombs were dropped around Vendetta that her Boilers and Engines shifted on their mountings and was ordered to Singapore for repairs. After this Bill served on HMAS Arunta and was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal for Gallantry, skill and devotion during the assault operations at Lingayen Gulf.Discharged from the Navy on 21.11.45.German cap, green cotton, on the front is a "German Eagle." light blue, under is a diamond shaped brown with a blue, white & red circle centre, inside is red lined.Berlin No 55558KBuniform - german army, headwear -

Nearing the 60th anniversary of the Gallipoli landings The Herald newspaper interviewed former light horsemen including Legatees Rex Hall and Bill Scott. The caption of the photo mentions that they would be leading the Anzac march mounted on horseback that year. Th ephoto shows Jim Holland, Rex Hall, and Bill Scott with Jim Rogers (seated). The rest of the article by John Hamilton describes the Gallipoli campaign. The article was part of a collection of photographs in an album of Comradeship activities (from 1930 to 1977) see items 01027 to 01036. The Comradeship committee gathered photos of events and compiled them in a Comradeship photo album for Legatees to look through. Some appear to be trips to visit other Legatees living overseas and social occasions held in different places.A record of two legatees recounting their war experiences in the press. It was included in the Comradeship photo album. A press release from Melbourne Legacy in 1975 which relates a story of how Legacy works. The information was intended to be used by press and magazines etc. The title 'A high flier' is about 'Bill' a young 13 year old boy who lived with his mother, a widow, and 10 other children in poor surroundings. Legacy was able to organise assistance from War Service Homes to give them a chance of a home of their own. Legacy helped in the usual way, with educational expenses, school uniforms, and other school expenses. Bill achieved his leaving certificate, then matriculated and gained a Commonwealth scholarship. He chose to do Aeronautical Engineering at Melbourne University and Legacy provided a spot for him at Blamey House where he could live close to his studies. He went on to complete his studies at University of Sydney and helped by a research scholarship also the Imperial College of Science and Technology in London, then commenced a post-graduate PhD studies in Aerodynamics. He became a Research Lecturer at the Imperial College. Plaque - Opening of Wodonga Municipal Saleyards 1980
This plaque commemorates the opening of the Wodonga Municipal Saleyards, named the W. G. Page Saleyards, in 1980. The last sales at this facility took place in February 2015 before being replaced by the privately-run Barnawartha North's Northern Victoria Livestock Exchange. William George Page was Shire and City Engineer in Wodonga from 1965 until 1989. When he arrived the Shire of Wodonga had a population of 17,000 people. In 1966 Wodonga was selected as a city for special growth assistance. In 1972 Bill Page presented a new Town Plan to the Wodonga Council. Over the ensuing years he dedicated himself to bring this plan to fruition. He often had to argue and campaign with the Albury-Wodonga Corporation to push for the interests of development in Wodonga. This included winning a planning appeal to allow the saleyards to be relocated to Bandiana on the outskirts of Wodonga. Bill Page retired on health grounds in July 1989. The Council honoured him with a farewell dinner and renamed the saleyards at Bandiana the W.G. Page Saleyards in his honour.The Mayor , Cr Valentina Gillard, said "Every development in Wodonga in the past 24 years has a bit of Bill Page in it". William Page died 3 months later at 58 years old.This plaque commemorates an important centre in the development and support of the livestock industry around Wodonga.A bronze plaque bearing the symbol of the Rural City of Wodonga in the upper left corner and an inscription to commemorate the opening of the Wodonga Municipal Saleyards. It hopes that in many 'quiet corners" of our native land it may help to develop the spirit of self-sacrifice and true Christian thought for others.A very damaged, stained red antique hardcover book for girls with the title printed in gold lettering in the middle of the front cover. There is a gold outlined drawing of a girl sitting looking out of a window. There are red flowers and green leaves decorating the cover. The spine has the title printed in gold letters with red flowers and green leaves.On the front right side end paper is an inscription for a Sabbath School award dated 1882. The frontispiece balck and white illustration is of a girl sitting at a table at a fair. Tissue paper protects it. J W Toon (also known as Bill Toon) served with the 8th Division and was a prisoner of war. -

The Hoary-headed Grebe can be located in all states and territories in Australia as well as New Zealand. These birds are usually found in large open bodies of water away from shorelines. They mainly feed on aquatic arthropods which they catch by deep diving. The Hoary-headed Grebe is bird-like in appearance with darkish grey and white plumage. When threatened while in a flock, these birds often dive beneath the water in a synchronised manoeuvre. This specimen is part of a collection of almost 200 animal specimens that were originally acquired as skins from various institutions across Australia, including the Australian Museum and the National Museum of Victoria, as well as individuals such amateur anthropologist Reynell Eveleigh Johns between 1860-1880. These skins were then mounted by members of the Burke Museum Committee and put-on display in the formal space of the Museum’s original exhibition hall where they continue to be on display. This display of taxidermy mounts initially served to instruct visitors to the Burke Museum of the natural world around them, today it serves as an insight into the collecting habits of the 19th century. This specimen is part of a significant and rare taxidermy mount collection in the Burke Museum. This collection is scientifically and culturally important for reminding us of how science continues to shape our understanding of the modern world. They demonstrate a capacity to hold evidence of how Australia’s fauna history existed in the past and are potentially important for future environmental research. The bird is small and stocky, similar to a duck in appearance, with a darkish grey and white plumage. The eyes are made of glass. The bill is black and the legs are a pale yellow/grey. The White-faced Heron is a common bird located throughout Australasia, including New Guinea, Torres Strait, Indonesia and New Zealand. It can be found in all parts of Australia with the exception of areas which are too dry. The White-faced heron typically resides in wetland habitats including reefs, rock pools, swamps and rivers. They feed on small aquatic animals. These birds get their name from their characteristic white face which contrasts to the ashen grey plumage of their bodies. This specimen is part of a collection of almost 200 animal specimens that were originally acquired as skins from various institutions across Australia, including the Australian Museum in Sydney and the National Museum of Victoria (known as Museums Victoria since 1983), as well as individuals such as amateur anthropologist Reynell Eveleigh Johns between 1860-1880. The Buff-banded Rail is located on mainland Australia. It can also be found in south-east Asia, New Guinea and New Zealand. These birds are often seen individually or in pairs walking through the dense reeds and vegetations of wetlands or crops. This rail has a slow walk and often flicks its tail, which is raised, as they move. They are omnivore scavengers who feed on a large variety of invertebrates, fruit, seeds and vegetables. Animal specimen - Rufous-bellied Kookaburra (female), Trustees of the Australian Museum, 1860-1880
The Rufous-bellied Kookaburra is a large member of the Kingfisher family. It commonly resides in the dense rainforests of lowland New Guinea, Saibai Island, Indonesia, Biak, Maluku/Moluccas Islands, Papua New Guinea, Melanesia and Queensland in Australia. This is unlike other species of Kookaburra which commonly prefer to reside in locations of open country. Another aspect which makes this bird unique to other Kookaburra is its tendency to live in pairs and not in family groups which is typical of other Kookaburras. In the case of the Rufous-bellied Kookaburra, both parents incubate and care for the eggs/chicks. This Kookaburra feeds on small mammals, birds, reptiles and insects. The Rufous-bellied Kookaburra was originally named the Gaudichaud's Kookaburra after the French botanist Charles Gaudichaud-Beaupré. This species of Kookaburra is among the most colorful varieties of the Kookaburra alongside the Spangled Kookaburra. This specimen is part of a collection of almost 200 animal specimens that were originally acquired as skins from various institutions across Australia, including the Australian Museum in Sydney and the National Museum of Victoria (known as Museums Victoria since 1983), as well as individuals such as amateur anthropologist Reynell Eveleigh Johns between 1860-1880. The female Kookaburra has a brown/rufous coloured tail, as is the case for this particular specimen which identifies it as female. This bird has a large white bill and pale coloured legs. Animal specimen - White-Winged Chough, Trustees of the Australian Museum, 1860-1880
The White Winged Chough may be found all over Australia's eastern and southern mainland. They live in flocks of up to 20 birds and are extremely sociable. These birds are very territorial and feed primarily on the ground hunting systematically for worms and insects; however, regardless of this territorial nature, they rear their young in a cooperative nesting effort. The White Winged Chough has a distinct swagger about them but they are often mistaken for both magpies and crows. This mistake is due to the overall dark appearance, and their white makings. This specimen is part of a collection of almost 200 animal specimens that were originally acquired as skins from various institutions across Australia, including the Australian Museum in Sydney and the National Museum of Victoria (known as Museums Victoria since 1983), as well as individuals such as amateur anthropologist Reynell Eveleigh Johns between 1860-1880. Demonstrates how the SEC used painted signs to advise passengers about fare payment arrangements.Folded metal and painted "Pay as you Enter" sign used on Ballarat single truckers until 1971. Black lettering on a yellow front with a Yellow back. Sign has been manufactured to fit the timber holders that were provided on each side of each door.
