Black and white negative by Wal Jack of U206 and a C Class or N class stored at Preston Workshops. Based on image the number of the second car is number 125. Note the two cable grip cars and the bus body in the background. Rod Atkins advised 11/10/2020: "The bus body is one of the four James Motors of South Melbourne body's first fitted to the group of 12 Thornycroft "J" chassis in 1924-1925 numbered 13 to 24. Then in 1929 they were all transferred to the ADC chassis but four were retained in late thirties to early forties for possible further use. The four bodies were then fitted to the new International K6 chassis in 1943. The vehicle numbers were 19 to 308 16 to 309 24 to 311 and 18 to 312. They were finally disposed of in 1949." Charles Walker, Son of Samuel Walker, 112 Lyons St S; Prev S School 33 Upper VI Class entered Ballarat College in 1885, peer year 1889. He was awared the Old Collegians Cup in 1887. The cup was returned to the school in 1985 by Mrs Hilda Rehfisch. The Old Collegians Cup was an athletic award and highly prestigious. Yields information about the reconstruction of track at Hospital Corner and the way tram services were arranged and the corner itself.Negative and Digital image of the Wal Jack Ballarat Negative file of No. 35 crossing Sturt St while trackwork is being undertaken to replace diamond crossing at Hospital corner. The tram has the destination of Lydiard St North and is proceeding to Drummond St North to reverse. Based on Reg Item 5623, the work was done June 1951. In the background is H. E. Harry Walker's property would have been run by his son William in 1922. When the CRB Road cut through the property William planted plum trees on the opposite side. These are visible in this photo. An extensive raspberry crop is in the foreground. The building over the road on the left hand side is the corn and produce store built by Edward John Price (son of Edward Joseph Price) to capitalise on the CRB Road cutting through the Price farm. John Lundy-Clarke grew up in the Kalorama/Mt Dandenong area and later in life (1972-74) began to write a comprehensive history of the area working from an original settlement map in an effort to cover all areas.Small black and white postcard showing a crop in foreground with a house to the right. The winner of the race - Jack Baker was a cycling commentator In the 1920s, in the 1930s he cycled around Australia. In 1937 he rode in Europe and England representing Bruce Small for Malvern Star. Jack was well known for his commentary at races at the Geelong velodrome track after the war. Has destination of Spencer St. and an advert for The New Palais Royale at the Exhibition buildings. In the background is G. D. Langridge Real Estate building. On the street outside is a fire alarm point. Rod Atkins advised 6/9/2020: "I have been so impressed with the photo that is being used in Bellcord for the issue that did some digging. The photo is priceless! The photo is taken on a Friday (to my surprise) mid-afternoon given the shadows. Did you notice the flip side of the dummy destination - Clifton Hill. Hard working cable tram line to the end - licence to print money for the board. The building on the South east corner. - G.D. Langridge & Sons Auctioneer. This was a Melbourne "institution" . George David Langdon was a local identity who went on to become MLA for Collingwood. ot sure when the business started but could have been in the 1860s or 70's Well before the cable trams. George died on 24th March 1891. The business survived till well after the war."
