This is a souvenir dish or small plate with an illustration of the Hopkins River in Warrnambool. Included in the illustration are the rowing shed, the boathouses and the lambertiana trees in the property of Lyndoch. The souvenir dish would have been sold to tourists visiting Warrnambool or Warrnambool residents in the 1920s and 30s. This type of souvenir was popular at the time in any tourist town or place in Australia. Tourism has been an important industry in Warrnambool since the late 19th century. This item is of interest as an example of the type of souvenir produced for tourists in the 1920s and 30s. It was both a useful and decorative item. It will be useful for display. This is a small glass souvenir dish. The centre of the dish features a colour illustration of the Hopkins River, Warrnambool (near its mouth). A group of twenty-two people seated and standing on the Cowes Jetty, which was built in 1870. Trolleys on iron rail were used to convey goods along the Jetty. This wooden water trough was likely used for washing or soaking purposes in a domestic, agricultural, or workshop setting. The presence of three separate compartments suggests it may have been used for graded washing or rinsing stages—common in dairies, butcheries, or shearing sheds. Its design predates modern plumbing and plastic equivalents, and it offers a glimpse into early 20th-century rural practices of water management and manual labour.This is a long rectangular wooden water trough, divided into three equally sized compartments. Each compartment has a slightly tapered interior and includes a metal drain fitting at the base for water release. The trough appears to be handcrafted from timber planks, joined with nails and reinforced with internal corner brackets. A wooden lid sits partially over the top, possibly to cover one compartment at a time or for protection when not in use. The battery's purpose was to crush quartz from nearby quartz reefs and extract gold from within. The battery was erected in 1908 and consists of a five-head battery, Wilfrey table, Bergin pan, portable steam engine and shed. The battery was restored in 2011/12 and can be viewed daily between 9.00am and 5.00pm. See website for details. Henry Beater Christian (1886-1962) , was a descendant of one of the earliest settler families in Kew. Employed at the Kew Asylum as a 'public servant', he was a skilled amateur photographer, photographing numerous scenes in Kew and on his travels around Victoria. The majority of his photographs date from 1916 to 1929. His finest photographs are housed in two photograph albums. A fine, early view of Macauley's boat sheds on the Yarra River at Kew. It is also one of the earliest views of Carnsworth, a notable mansion in Studley Park. \When the railway reached Wodonga from Melbourne on 19th November 1873 the first station building, which included a refreshment room and dining room, was a temporary structure. It was 300 ft. long and was removed and taken to Beechworth when the new station was built in 1874 by contractor J. Richardson. The Goods shed was 100 feet long and was built by Frew & Hill in 1873. One year later it was extended an additional 150 feet by James Nation. The date of the construction of the Locomotive shed is not known but predates 1883. It was a galvanised iron clad building which housed 4 engines on 2 tracks; in 1910 it was extended to 250 feet in length to house six more engines. The location of the railway tracks and station were a constant cause of congestion in the centre of Wodonga as the tracks crossed over Sydney Road (later named High Street). Lines of traffic were frequently banked up as the gates were closed to allow trains to cross. The Wodonga Rail Bypass project moved Wodonga station from the original central location to a position on a new line on the northern edge of the town. Not only did this release land in the middle of the city for commercial and public use, but also eliminated 10 level crossings. The project actually commenced in 2008 with the last passenger train passing through Wodonga on 8 November 2008. On 23 July 2010, the new rail bypass was opened, the original line through Wodonga closed and the station fell quiet. The first Mt Dandenong State School opened in a shed on the property of William Ferguson on the corner of Blythe and Old Coach Roads. The first teacher was Miss Ethel Gruber who opened the school on May 11th, 1897. It wasn’t until 1901 that the school shifted over the road into an old school building that was moved up to the new site from Ringwood. Gellibrand station was one of the larger and more important stations possessing a waiting room, station office, parcels shed and refreshment room joined by a common verandah. The refreshment room was managed for many years by Mrs. O'Neill who, with her staff, around 1920, offered a hot meal for one shilling. In the afternoon, a "cuppa and rock cakes" was available to passengers on the train to Colac.
