The City of Moorabbin Historical Society was formed c 1960 by a group of Moorabbin residents who were concerned that the history of the area should be preserved. In January, 2 brush tailed possums had taken up residence in the Barn and after failed attempts by Helen and Dennis to move them, Glen Eira Council relocated them. Metal Pully and Rope When heavy items were required to be moved a rope and pulley set was very handy. By attaching one end of the set to a solid surface, it was possible to lift items. In the bush, the timber workers made good use of the pulleys. When set up in a sequence, they could move logs across gullys, up and down hills as the chopped down trees made their way to a sawmill. The Rays' badge was was adopted by the General Grand Council in Melbourne in 1935 from a design submitted by South Australia.The shape of the badge represented the love with which every child of God is encircled. The ivy leaf was for friendship and the lines represented the good deeds which go out from each young life as rays of light to bring sunshine in others. This meaning was adopted in 1948. In 1966, General Grand Council in Sydney, decided to discontinue the use of the Rays' badge in favour of the one badge for the whole organisation. The It provides good details about the life of Legatee Alf Argent, including his military career and his work career and hobbies. The document was part of an album of past presidents from 1965 to 1989. The folder included biographical details and obituaries, eulogies and death notices of prominent Legatees. The items have been catalogued separately.A record biographical details being provided to Government House for the Governor to understand the background of the current Legacy president. This item is a photograph album that would have been owned by a person or family in the late 19th or early 20th centuries. In most cases (but not in this one) family photographs would have been mounted in the pages and kept as part of a family’s history. Albums such as this one, with photographs, would then become family heirlooms and treasured as such. They would have been expensive to buy at the time so were the province of the more affluent. This album, in very good condition, is beautiful, aesthetically-pleasing and redolent with the history of earlier times. This album is retained as a beautiful example of the type of photograph album that the more affluent members of society would have owned over a 100 years ago. This is a leather covered photograph album. The cover is brown with ornamental floral scrolls and ornamental gold panels. Some of the gold etching and some of the leather areas have worn away. The spine has ridged gold bands with the gold etching heavily faded. The metal clasp that closes the pages is made of silver (tarnished) and is of a decorative pattern. The sixteen pages are made of heavy stiffened cardboard and have centre cut-outs (to contain photographs). These cut-outs are oval and rectangular (arched at the top) in shape and are outlined in gold. On every second page, the cut-out is decorated with sprigs of flowers delicately painted in colour. The pages are gilt-edged. There are three loose sheets of paper which look to be original backing pieces for photographs. The City of Moorabbin Historical Society was formed c 1960 by a group of Moorabbin area residents who were concerned that the history of the area should be preserved. A good response to a call for items related to the historical area of Moorabbin Shire brought donations of a wide variety of artefacts that are now preserved by the current members of CMHS at Box Cottage Museum. The Ithacan Philanthropic Society has been donating to the Royal Children's Hospital since 1922. Easter fundraiser functions have been held at the clubrooms to support the annual Children's Hospital Appeal. The photo shows a group of IPS members presenting a cheque for $10000 to the hospital's Good Friday Appeal.
