Wax seals have been used since the Middle Ages and are primarily used for legitimising and authenticating official documents. This wax seal was used by the Campaspe Road Board (later the Huntly Council). Two articles that relate to the Legacy appeal in 1977. The appeal was opened by the Governor of Victoria, Sir Henry Winneke. The articles were cut from the newspaper and pasted into a scrapbook. For many years Legacy kept scrapbooks of press clippings that related to their work and publicity. On 28 March 1981 the Ballarat College of Advanced Education 1870 Founders hall was opened. The hall was erected from the proceeds of the Centenary Appeal, held in 1975. It cost approximately $800,000. The hall commemorates the initiative of the founders of the original Ballarat School of Mines and its "descendants", including Ballarat College of Advanced Education, as well as formal technical education in Australia. The hall plans were to erect a building to accommodate 670 persons in a theatre type seating arrangement and to be used for multi-purpose use by community groups as well as by the College. Construction of the hall commenced in 1978. It was opened approximately 110 years after the Ballarat School of Mines (26 October 1870) and 10 years after the opening of the Mt Helen Campus (31 October 1870)..1) Morgan B. Siege Perilous - Arthurian legends Some legends also note a special chair at the Round Table, called the Siege Perilous, or 'Dangerous Chair'. Legend says that the seat could only be used by a knight who had a pure heart. A person with a pure heart was seen as someone who had committed no crimes or done any wrong. In the tale, anyone who sat in the chair but did not have a pure heart would die instantly. It was kept free by Merlin for the person who would one day find an object called the Holy Grail. This was a magical cup that was supposed to have been the one that Jesus drank out of during the Last Supper. Speeches printed after a dinner to honour Legatee Stan Savige. The dinner on Saturday 4 November 1939 was held to celebrate Brigadier Savige's appointment to Command the 17th Infantry Brigade, 6th Division, 2nd AIF. The speeches were given by Legatee Eric Russell as Legacy President in 1939, Sir John Gellibrand and a response by Stan Savige. The introduction by Legatee Russell mentions that Legacy Patron, Sir John Gellibrand 'had the inspiration which caused the Legacy movement' and Stan Savige was revered as the Founder of Legacy. Savige's response includes that he received the inspiration from Gellibrand in a letter (not as is commonly related that he visited Hobart). Savige's subsequent exploits in WWII are detailed in Chapter 4 of 'There goes a man' by W.B. This is a photocopy of a book, the original is no longer available. It contains lists of guest speakers at Legacy functions, and the date they spoke and some comments about what they spoke on or how good they were. The dates are from 1926 to the 1980s. Guest speakers include Lord Baden Powell, (founder of the boy scouts movement), Sir Henry Bolte (Premier of Victoria), Sir Edward Dunlop (Burma Railway Fame), Patsy Adam - Smith (Author) to name a few. The list also notes the speakers title, honours/awards/qualifications, subject matter, date. Legatees met regularly and had guest speakers to entertain and inform on different subjects at their Tuesday Luncheons. This document was from a file of information about guest speakers (see also 00812-00822 and 00829-00837). The Programme Committee was responsible for organising the speakers. In 1867 Frenchman, Joseph Monier patented reinforced concrete horticultural troughs. In 1873 this process was extended to iron reinforced bridges with the first bridge built in 1875. In Australia, Sir John Monash of Monash and Anderson company, originally built 8 Monier bridges in Bendigo all single arch except Weeroona Ave., which was a double arch. The Warrnambool Camera Club is a group of like -minded people who meet once a month in Dennington. The ledger contains lists of entrants and photographs from International Exhibitions of Photography held from 1966 to 1970. The exhibition was held in January 1966 at the Warrnambool Town Hall.
