Functional Object - Ticket Wallet with 9 blocks of tickets, State Electricity Commission of Victoria (SECV), late 1960's
Demonstrates the method of dispensing tickets by conductors, how the tickets could be arranged, although the arrangement may not exactly represent the 1958-1963 arrangements of a ticket wallet. Yields information about the style and printing of tickets used in Ballarat and Bendigo tramways and how they were presented. Has a strong association with Travis Jeffery.Ticket wallet with a set of nine 1950-60's Ballarat tram tickets set up to represent a typical conductor's set of tickets by Travis Jeffrey, though these may not exactly line up with the fares at any one period - 1958 to 1963 following the introduction of concession tickets. Does not have a 3d City Section Ticket. 4000 - Sheet of leather, approx. 2mm thick, stained brown with four pockets formed on each side with another sheet of leather, stitched on all sides to form pockets to hold eight blocks of tickets. Stitching is a light cream or white colour cotton. Yields information about the style and printing of tickets used in Ballarat and Bendigo tramways and how they were presented.Block with 4 remaining ticket - orange ink on off white paper, denomination 3d, overprinted "Concession" in black, numbered A010646 - 49, headed State Electricity Commission of Victoria, Provincial Tramways. Originally a block of 50 tickets been stapled onto an off white, ruled on one side cardboard back with a heavy metal staple and an green coloured cardboard retaining strip at the top of the ticket. The ticket price is in orange ink while the ticket number itself is in black ink. On rear in orange ink is a diagonal criss cross or tartan pattern. Yields information about the style and printing of tickets used in Ballarat and Bendigo tramways and how they were presented.Block with 22 remaining tickets - red ink on off white paper, denomination 2d, over stamped in black "City Section" numbered C873578 - 99, headed State Electricity Commission of Victoria, Provincial Tramways. Originally a block of 100 tickets been stapled onto an off white cardboard back, ruled on one side with a heavy metal staple and a off white coloured cardboard retaining strip at the top of the ticket. The ticket price is in red ink while the ticket number itself and prefix is in black ink. On rear in red ink is a diagonal criss cross or tartan pattern. Political pamphlet, published by the Australian Labor Party for the Saturday May 30, 1970 state election titled "Ballarat Must Retain its Public Transport". Printed in red ink on off white art paper, features Ballarat 42 crossing Albert St Sebastopol. Gives quotes from Liberal members supportive of private transport in Ballarat. On rear gives five points of the Labor party why private transport should be kept, and photos of the candidates for Ballarat South (Ted Cullen), Ballarat Province (The Hon Jack Jones) and Ballarat North (Kevin Flynn). Yields information the model tram used during the second world war and some of the people involved in fund raising in BallaratReproduction of c1944 photograph of Ballarat's Most Popular Conductress Competition to raise funds for the Red Cross Prisoner of War fund. Photo features a model tram, No. 41, known as the Treasure Tram with a group of boys and men group at the rear of the tram. Boys are dressed in army or sailors uniforms. Men dressed in army uniform and one SEC conductor with conductors bag around shoulder. From original of another reproduction believed to be held by the Ballarat Historical Society. Incorrectly labelled as being taken during 1946. See other reference for details of the Treasure Tram. Conductor believed to be Robert Morrison. Identified by Doreen Brown, 307 Simpson St. Buniyong as her father - 53 412 125, during the exhibition. Laminated with 4 Velcro dots on rear. 5/2/1997 - additional print 10" x 8" stored with item. 26/7/2007 - additional print "10" x 8" stored with item - ex Alan Bradley photographs 5/2007. Copy negative scanned and image changed to a higher resolution 5-5-2020. Yields information about the crews on the last official tram in Ballarat at the time of the closure of the Ballarat System and some of the last tickets sold on the system.Nine No. 8c SECV tickets on block (Nos. A552391 to 99), purchased at time by Albert Isaacs - white paper, green ink with "Electricity makes life easier!" on rear, stapled to heavy cardboard with stubs of previously issued tickets remaining. Signed on both sides. Alan Bradley - advised 2/1996 Herb Knight - driver and Lew Walker - Conductor as crew on "Last Tram" No. 40 ex Sebastopol (official records). Albert Issacs of view that Des Domaschenz was the driver of the last tram. Images of item added 19/10/2013. Trams 12 and 21 as Myer's Christmas tram in City Loop. Photographed from south side of Sturt St. looking towards Post Office. Trams have both been fitted with lights, and have large white strip on front dash. Tram 21 has been made up as 'Santa's Showboat' and has red ensign flag on roof.
