The book commemorates the opening of the Afsluitdijk in 1932. Shutting off the North Sea created the IJsselmeer and connected the provinces of North Holland and Friesland. Historical Study of the development of regional clothing for men, women and children in the Bunschoten area from the 18th century onwards. Although this publication has no date it is obviously from the 2nd half of the 20th century and put together by the local historic society in an effort to record certain traditions and promote the local area. The item was created by Bouwens and van Kampen, a ceramics business founded in Bussum by Greta Klaar. Greta married her pupil Johannes Bouwens in Amsterdam during the war. The couple then moved to Soest where the business became known as "De vlieg-uut". It went from strength to strength until a fatal accident in 1970 after which it was permanently closed. The designers and ceramicists specialised in small plates such as this commemorative one for Queen Juliana's accession to the throne following the abdication of her mother, Queen Wilhelmina.The item recalls the joyful celebrations that took place in Septermber 1948 when Juliana accepted the throne from her mother Queen Wilhelmina. The Queen had reigned for 50 years including the period of 1940-45 (WWII) during which she carried out her duties from London. Juliana and her family resided in Ottawa, Canada during those years. To some extent this event was the final celebration of liberation from the tyranny of occupation and the welcoming back of the Royal family to Dutch soil. Decorative plate to commemorate Queen Juliana's ascension of the Dutch throne in 1948. The plate is meant to be hung and has a piece of string for this purpose inserted through the rim on the back of the plate. The inscription reads: "Juliana Koningin 6 Sept.1948". On the back are the marks: "290KR." "BVK Soest" and "P.H.". It is gaily painted in red, blue and green on an off-white background. The central scene is recognisably Amsterdam with church tower, stepped gables and Dutch flags. The border consists of a circle of red, white and blue flowers; leaves are green.

Queen Wilhelmina celebrated her silver jubilee in 1923.Princess Wilhelmina was only 10 years old when her father (King Willem III) passed away in1890. Until she became of age 8 years later her mother, Queen Emma, ruled as Queen Regent. The Dutch are traditionally proud of their Royal Family and this is one of the commemorative items with which the country honoured the Queen's silver jubilee in 1923 Shaped as a soup plate the carved out bottom carries an image of Queen Wilhelmina and the inscription "1898-1923". A branch of oranges with a golden W placed in its centre partly encircles the image. The plate is edged with three green circles. "1898-1923".

Maastricht, Holland, was the city where Petrus Regout established the De Sphinx pottery in 1836. De Sphinx operated under the name Petrus Regout & Co. until 1899. The firm was noted for its transfer-printed earthenware. Many factories in Maastricht are still making ceramics. The plate was created to celebrate the silver jubilee of Queen Wilhelmina in 1923.A ceramic plate decorated in blue with pictures and words. Central to the image is a coat of arms featuring a central lion and 4 identical hunting horns. The whole is surmounted by a crown. The rim is decorated with orange blossoms.The words read: "Mijn schilt en de betrouwen Syt Ghy O God myn Heer. Op U soo wil ick bouwen Verlaat my nimmermeer." These are words from the second verse of the National Anthem recorded in Old Dutch. The dates 1898-1923 also feature on the front of the plate. The back bears the maker's stamp, an imprint of a small arrow, an imprint of ¾ and the words "Made in Holland". The maker's stamp reads: "Petrus Regout & Co Maastricht". It is surmounted by a sphinx. There are also two holes in the rim to enable hanging of the plate.

This tile was produced in 1938 to honour the 40th anniversary of Queen wilhelmina's succession to the Dutch throne.Significant because of the Dutch people's connection to their Royal House.A small square commemorative tile in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the reign of Queen Wilhelmina. (Queen Wihelmina Jubilee 1898-1938). On the back: "Koninklyk Goedewaagen Gouda" and "NRvGelder&Co Amsterdam". A hole to enable hanging has been pierced in one corner .

(a) - (w) - A tall, off white, ceramic pot with matching sugar bowl, milk jug, and eight cups and saucers. Two scenes, Westertoren and Montelbaanstoren are found on the sides of the body of the coffee pot. Scenes of Amsterdam are also seen on the other items. Two plates for serving biscuits or cakes both also with Amsterdam scenes complete the set. The edges of these are curved slightly upwards.Item 5140(v) has the words "Nieuwmarket met Waag" (Newmarket with Weighing House); the inscription on 5140(w) reads: "Waterlooplein", (Waterloo Square). On the bottom of some items the words "Viller and Bosch" appear.

The Japanese occupied present day Indonesis from 7-12-1941 to 15-8-1945. Indonesia was a Dutch colony at the time and Dutch Indonesians were imprisoned, starved and otherwise treated with great cruelty.This tile is of importance as a reminder of the War in the Pacific and the suffering of Dutch colonials during the Japanese occupation.A small, simply coloured ceramic tile commemorating the liberation of the Dutch East Indies on August 15, 1945. An illustrated paper applique has been stuck on the top surface.The following words and phrases are recorded on the paper applique: 15 augustus 1945; NED. INDIE VRIJ; nooit vergeten (never forget). The dates 7-12-1941and 15-8-1945 record the time of Japanese occupation. The tile is further illustrated with a map of the (now) Indonesian islands; two cut lines of barbed wire and two triumphant lions.

(a) and (b) - A set of two ceramic wall tiles featuring historic buildings in the town of Heemstede in the province of North Holland. The images are in shades of blue. Tile (a) depicts the Dutch Reformed Church building (Netherlands Reformed Church). Tile (b) is an image of the Cruquius Museum on the site of a one-time pumping station.On the back of each tile are the words Mosa Royal Holland. Tile (a) also has the numbers 86 and 89 imprinted.

A fully decorated Boch Delfts wall plate depicting a scene with water, sailing boats, a small dinghy, distant land with village and a glimpse of shore in the foreground. The whole is encircled by a ribbon of blue. The broad outer edge is decorated with leaf and flower patterns.The marks "Boch" and "Delfts" encircled by flower patterns cover a small central area on the back.

Brought to Australia in the 1950s by Dutch migrants. These coffee grinders were in common use in the 1940s amd 1950s as an altrrnative to wall-mounted coffee grinders. They were operated by clamping the grinder between one' knees. The drinking of coffee is a highly social ritual among Dutch people. They brought this ritual with nthem to Australia as is evidenced by the number of coffee grinders and other coffee psraphernalia donated to the DAHC.Coffee grinder, wooden body, metal top.
