Wal Jack had an extensive range of correspondents throughout Australia and the world who often provided him with detailed drawings and notes on various tramway systems. Drawing shows the various lines, crossing loops, depots, routes with numbers and the location of bomb damage during 1940 air raids. The gauge of the system was 3'6". The Wikipedia reference reports that the system was closed as a result of extensive damage during the air raids. Changed its name in 1934 to the "Aust Tramway & Motor Omnibus Employees Association" so as to incorporate bus drivers of motor omnibuses. Became part of the Rail Transport Bus Union in 1993. An interim report by the Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways Board (MMTB) concerning the replacement of cable tramways in Melbourne, whose capacity was predicted to be incapable of coping with future demand. In light of some opposition to electrification via overhead wires, several schemes were outlined, including a conduit system, surface contact system, battery cars, petrol cars, petrol-electric cards, motor buses, and trolleybuses.
