The Ballarat Catholic Young Men's Society was established on 01 August 1892. The society provided sporting and debating for young men and later prime ministers Curtin and Scullin were members of the organisation, and it is where they learnt to debate. This image of the 1937 local football premiers is evidence of the sporting prowess of the members. The organisation ceased in the Ballarat Diocese in the 1940s.

Ruby Sandow ran a general store and confectionary business there in the 1930s and 1940s, while living at the premises with her husband John and their daughter Catherine (known as Kitty).Coloured photocopy of document which certifies that fire insurance policy no. 13996325 has been renewed from 17/7/1937 to 17/7/1938, for buildings in Sussex Street Linton consisting of "Dwelling, General Store & Wash-house". Insured are Mrs. R.N. Sandow and Mr. E. Doepel, mortgagee. Premium paid was one pound, twelve shillings and eight pence. Linoleum was introduced in the late nineteenth century and the examples at Hymettus include this original early twentieth century hall runner. While other examples in the house date to the 1940s his example from much earlier is a rare survivor of its type and vintage. Photograph shows Ballarat bogie tram No. 15 at the City terminus (Sturt and Lydiard Sts), c1948. Has a destination of Mt Pleasant with a crewman leaning on the front of the tram. In the background is the Town Hall. The tram was originally Hawthorn Tramways Trust No. 26, then MMTB 132 and sold to the SEC in 1945 becoming tram 15. It was later renumbered to No. 36 during 1953. The Photograph shows Ballarat tram No. 14 with the destination of Lydiard St North most likely in Albert St Sebastopol during the 1930s or 1940s. The tram was in the livery shown from August 1936 until Dec. 1950. Printed as a specific accounting Journal by the SECV for use in its offices to record the use of the Franking Machine or Postage Machine. The machine would be preloaded with a value at the post office after a cheque for 25 pounds was presented and then used to send out accounts, and letters from the mail room. Used when all power invoices were mailed to customers. Also records the use of stamps. Has the initials of the person who would audit or check the monthly entries. Used in the days when stamps were considered a valuable commodity and to stop pilfering. See item 5639 for a franked envelope sent from the SECV's Ballarat office to Wal Jack.Demonstrates record keeping of a franking machine record used in the SECV Ballarat office during the late 1930s and early 1940s.Printed as an accounting journal with heavy card covers, approx 50 pages, ruled in red and blue ink, completed in black ink. The journal is titled "Tranking Machine Record" in a gold block.
