Leather, oval shaped hat box (in which is stored a men's silk top hat - 11400.834). Lined in blue velvet, and blue silk. Looped handle, 29cm long, attached with 2.5cm circular metal studs - possibly brass. An oval shaped insert, lined with blue velvet and silk, hold the inverted top hat. This hat was owned by John Sargood ( refer enclosed notes) whose initials are marked on trhe hat-box - J.S. - two cms high. An internal strap of black fabric, has a leather tab at one end with a metal key shaped fastener. Unfortunately the other end is broken off. This strap would hold the hat in the cavity. An outer leather strap, 4cm wide passes over the lid, and fastens at a 6.5cm diameter, circular metal disk with key lock. End of this strap is also broken - a piece of leather is inside the hat box. The first commercial digital hearing aid was created in 1987 by the Nicolet Corporation. The hearing aid contained a body-worn processor that had a hardwire connection with an ear mounted transducer. While the Nicolet Corporation’s hearing aid was not publicly successful and the company shortly folded, it was able to start a competition between companies to create more effective hearing aids. Two years later, in 1989, the behind-the-ear (BTE) digital hearing aid was launched. In addition to the Nicolet Corporation, Bell Laboratories expanded upon the hearing aid business by developing a hybrid digital-analog hearing aid. When the hearing aid was put on in the market, it was instantaneously successful. This development helped bring major changes to the world of the hearing aid. The next major milestone was creating an all-digital hearing aid. The Oticon Company developed the first digital hearing aid in 1995, but it was only distributed to audiological research centers for research on digital technology in the realm of acoustic amplification. The Senso was the first commercially successful, all-digital hearing aid, and was created by Widex in 1996. After the success of the Senso, Oticon began marketing their own hearing aid, the DigiFocus. Presently, the digital hearing aid is now become programmable. By making the hearing aid programmable, it has allowed hearing aids to be capable of regulating sound on their own, without using a separate control. The hearing aid can now adjust itself depending on what environment it is in and often does not even need a physical volume control button. These were the first behind the ear hearing aids manufactured by the National Acoustic Laboraties (NAL) in Australia Body worn hearing aid consisting of separate pieces, one for each ear with attached ear mould, for one ear, in original box. Dr. Joseph Clover (1825-1882), an English physician, first described his Portable Regulating Ether Inhaler on Jan. 20, 1877. Clover was an especially sought after anesthesiologist and early pioneer in the specialty. This was the best-known of many inhalers that Clover designed. The dome-shaped reservoir was turned to points on a control dial to gradually increase or decrease the percentage of the air that passed over the ether. Several inventors based new inhalers on this, while the original continued to be manufactured as late as the beginning of WWII. This chess set was carved from local wood with bases made from halved cotton reels. The chess pieces take the shape of Australian animals, and Aboriginal men and women. The set was presented to Mr. Benzion Patkin, Honorary Secretary of the Zionist Federation of Australia, by Tatura internees in recognition of his assistance, in particular, his assistance in facilitating the emigration to Palestine. The Q class were introduced as bogie flatwagons in the 1870's. Large Q wagons as shown were built to the 1920's In the early 1900's, some Q wagons were modified for Pintsch Gas traffic with a small pump motor cabin at one end and a tank for carrying the gas. Other conversions for traffic were as required. Examples were: sheet glass, skeletal underframes between workshops In 1926 the railways built two narrow gauge Garratt locomotives. As normal wagons were unsuitable for moving these locomotives a special skeletal wagon was built. The engines were split into units for transportation. It featured axle bearings and boxes from steam engines, had hinged buffers that could drop out of the way during loading/unloading. It also featured 'strap' rail along the deck. The wagon was Q 129. A hand painted paper scroll, which Berthold Irving Meier (Bert. I. Myer, or BIM - a well-known Commercial Artist in Melbourne) had made when a member of the team of set designers and scenery painters, for the 8th Employment Company's production of "Sergeant Snow White", which was performed at the Melbourne University Union Theatre, in April 1943! It was a Sergeant Doc K Sternberg production, the other set designers being L/Corporal Emil Wittenberg, Private Klaus Friedeberger and Private Friedrich (Fritz) Schoenbach. The show incorporated songs and music by Kurt Kohn (pseudonym Ray Martin), with Erich Liffmann cast as Prince Charming. The masks for the ballet "Ghosts of Europe" were designed by Private Erwin Fabian. Others in the cast included Corporal A P Schmitz (ballet soloist), Sergeant Sigismund Lohde, and Sergeant H Mayer. The Production was extremely well-received and was called "a colourful and tuneful revue ......... a fine achievement of writing and direction......scenery and stage décor ingenious and amusing." There were write-ups in both "The Age" and "The Argus" Melbourne newspapers at the time. The scroll was originally housed in a wooden box, with "windows", (since lost) so that when the scroll was wound though, each scene, and the accompanying description from the original programme, could be seen.Two long pieces of paper which originally would have been one and has been rolled into a scroll.
