This book was written to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Albury War Memorial on Anzac Day 2025. It reveals the real people behind the names of 100 people amongst the 234 names inscribed on the Memorial. Those recognised served their nation in the Boer War, World War I and World War II and Vietnam. The Albury War Memorial was built by Thomas Bartleson whose eldest son, John Henry Bartleson who was killed in battle in 1916 at Pozieres in France. This item is part of a collection donated by Helmut Grzegozewski (Ziggy) who served in the Royal Australian Infantry Corps, 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment from December 1967 to November 1968 This flag was raised by signallers of Company Headquarters C Company, 3 RAR, on Hill 323 in the Long Hai Hills, Vietnam, during Operation Pinnaroo on 19 March 1968. The Company had been warned for a move up the hill by foot through suspected minefields to secure a landing zone for the insertion of A company. Ceremorial Object - Bracelet, Missing in Action (MIA) - Lt. Col. Orvin C. Jones Jr. USAF 16 Apr 72 NVN. VA
Captain Orvin Clarence Jones Jr., who joined the U.S. Air Force from Virginia, was a member of the 17th Wild Weasel Squadron, 388th Tactical Fighter Wing. He was a crew member aboard 'suntan 02? when it went missing, and was lost with the aircraft. His remains were never recovered. After the incident, the Air Force promoted Capt Jones to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col). Today, Lieutenant Colonel Jones is memorialized on the Courts of the Missing at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific. Montagnard Dagger, C 1964, souvenired by Major Ian McKeown, Australian Army Training Team Vietnam (AATTV). The Central Highlands emerged as a strategically important area during the Vietnam War, because it included the Ho Chi Minh trail, the North Vietnamese supply line for Viet Cong forces in the south. communists passing through the highlands had, however, to contend with the Montagnards who they called Thurong (highlanders). The Montagnards were a formidable opponent in their home terrain and were not adverse to using their traditional weapons when dispatching their enemies, particularly when maintaining silence was critical.
